Mini split air handler

On most (all?) mini-split units, is the interior air handler powered from the outside compressor or does it require a separate inside 120V power feed ?

If powered from out side, is it 240VAC, 120VAC or DC ?

The indoor unit is wired to the outdoor unit’s electrical terminal block, running either off 120 or 240VAC. The comm wire carries DC voltage.

Can’t speak for other manuf but Fujitsu supplies 240v to the condensInt unit which in turn supplies the evaporator. 14/3to the evap. Terminals 1-1, 2-2, 3-3and ground. 1&2 are voltage 2&3 are control wires. Perhaps the most common install error is crossing wire. On multis, cross wiring is the number one mistake.

Every one I've seen use 4 wires from the outside unit to the air handler, with one wire being ground. What's on the other three wires varies by manufacturer, but the easiest way to connect the two is with a special 14/4 wire made just for mini-splits (unless prohibited by local code). It's a 4 conductor wire (ground is insulated) with a sunlight-resistant jacket. You can get it in plastic or armored.
