Mini split bracket on metal building

I need to mount my mini split bracket hanging from the side of my metal building, where the outdoor unit will be installed. With only one z purlin to tie into inside, three out of four mounting holes on each bracket side will need to be anchored to something else after I punch through the siding. I thought about using 2x4's as the backing and tying in with lag screws. I also thought about using some angle iron and bolts.

What have you used to mount heavy items to your metal siding? I'm open to any suggestions.

Not exactly the same issue, but I've used both 2x6 and 4x4s. Use angle pieces (short) to attach to the girts.

Ok i have a silly question . Why not just put the outside unit on a pad on the ground and do away with the wall mount ? They do not " require " a wall mount and I have installed plenty of them on pads with no problems at all.

The 2x4 would work. If you are picking up the wall girt with a couple of the screws, even a section of 3/4 plywood would work OK to stiffen up the wall. I assume you have insulation inside and if so, take a router and round off all the edges that will contact the insulation, so it doesn't cut through.

I have mounted a couple of things on the side of my steel building. Nothing as heavy, but you still get the idea.

Chimney support and wall thimble from inside the building. The eight bolts thru the lower part of the plywood are the attachment for the chimney support bracket on the outside.

Chimney support outside. I imagine you are using a bigger version of something similar to hold the outside unit of the mini-split. Chimneys are heavy too!

I did something very similar with a section of 3/4 plywood where I mounted the electric meter and disconnect on the outside of the building.

You might also consider using some supports from the eave girt down to the wall bracket to help support it and prevent wall flex. 3/4 elect conduit with ends squished flat might work.
