Mini Split Degree Difference

Hello Everyone,

I have a 36k Mr Cool Multi Zone Mini Split. One of the heads is a 24k and is working strange in heating mode. There seems to be a 10 degree difference between the remote/thermostat and the actual temperature in the garage. For example if I set the room temp to 80, it will heat the room to 70 and shut off. I've been setting it to 84 to keep the heat up and it basically go down to 70 degrees and then kick on. I've read that some mini splits have an offset, and the ceiling is high in my garage. Anyone know how to adjust these settings on this mini split, or have any other suggestions on what might be going on?

There isn't a lot of literature out there on these units. There is a more detailed manual, with "secret" settings that the manufacturer and distributors seem to have.

You need to see what the temps are at various levels from 6,8,10,12,14 ft. Hot air rises and you are stacking heat against the ceiling. These are not arcane or mysteriously operating units. They are very sophisticated in their temp output…depending upon the floor plan of the space. I suspect your unit is doing exactly what it is being told to do. You may need, depending upon your analysis of the temp stratification in your space, to add a ceiling fan to blow the heat down to where you are.

I can't speak to "Mr. Cool" but I think splits typically do not have a thermostat in the remote, but rather the temperature of the return air is metered.

I just compensate with my settings. It is around 12' high in the wall. My difference is +/- 6* between the remote (@ about 36" in the wall mounted bracket).

My pioneer splits have a thermometer in their remotes. Its a ‘follow me’ feature. It is ‘more’ accurate than the head reading return air by approx 3-4°f.

Some of the units have the ability to move the sensor to the remote -- also make sure you don't screw up the fan operation.

This is one of the reasons you don't want to mount them too high ... the head unit should never be much more than 8.5 feet at the bottom.

You can also get one of the MrCool remote thermostats that moves the temperature measurement from the wall unit to the remote. Kind of like a permanent "follow me". Be careful though, not all of their thermostats do that.

Or, lift the front lid and add a pair of extension wires to the thermistor that's at the right/front side and place it wherever you want.
