Mini-Split Dehumidify mode

Good day all,

My 12k LG mini split has a dehumidify mode but it seems like it doesn't work very well. I regularly see the little meter I put in the room showing 70% even though the LG is set to dehumidify.

Could it just be that the temps in the house are cold enough that it doesn't run very often? Feels quite cold all the time. This is the basement, by the way. Quite cool down there all the time, and it's not a large room.

De-hu mode is just a slow fan speed and the condenser runs just enough to keep the coil cool so that it does in fact de-humidify. Basements are tough. Perhaps you should let it run on cooling and see how it does and yes it will be cold down there. I had good luck in my basement in MA by using the UGL paint on the concrete wall. I had to etch the concrete and then paint, but sealing the concrete made a substantial difference in that 50 yr old basement.

When it was in the 60s I can't get mine to extract any water in dehumidify, it's pretty worthless actually. There was not enough heat load for the coil to condense.
It also draws over 2000W occasionally running the compressor very hard.

My Fujitsu Halcyon in the basement does a great job in the summer. It's set to "dry" all summer except for when we are down there. I don't really see much difference in my electrical bill as compared to the old refrigerated dehumidifier.

Does it freeze the place? Seems like it has to have the room pretty crazy cold to keep the humidity down.

Nope. It's set to 72° and doesn't seem to affect the room temp on the "Dry" setting. The basement basically stays below 65° except when it's occupied.
