Thinking about making a filter box for the indoor unit of my mini split. I would like to use four 16X20 Merv 8 pleated filters. Two on top and two in front on an angle. Do you think this will restrict the intake too much? Has anybody done something like this?

Do you know the tons and CFM of your unit?

Though I will say that most wall mount mini splits are not made for ducted operation.

Tough to see from far away what the model is, but does it not have its own built in filter? Do you feel that is not enough?

20X36 shop with woodworking tools. Would not call myself a woodworker but I can make a lot of dust. The filters on the unit are not enough to keep fine dust out of the unit. Sorry picture did not turn out very good. It is a Mitsubitzi MSZGE18NA. I run dust collection on machines that I can, and have a delta air cleaner mounted to the ceiling.

I have that same unit in my 3 stall garage

I also have dust collection on my tools and the JET air cleaner on the ceiling. I really don't notice much of a problem with dust. I routinely pull out the blue plastic filters and every now and then pop off the plastic cover and use compressed air to blow out the coil. I am not sure if it would be worth the time and effort to build something else versus just keeping up with the routine maintenance

I would not block the outlet at all. 4 filters on the intake would be overkill but I want to do everything possible to not restrict the intake. I thought if it is possible to do this someone on this wonderfully informative site had already done it.

The filters in my unit don't really seem much like filters. More like plastic screens. They can be washed and used over and over. When I cleaned the unit yesterday there was way to much dust on the coils.
