Mini-Split for a 12x19 Garage Woodshop Q

Hey all...

Pretty much have this single car garage sealed good
except the man door to be replaced soon. My q is about
mini split w/ heatpump. Probably looking at an LG unit or
recommend another reputable brand. Not looking for cheap
made units.

Garage size is 12'x19' and its strictly a sign/wood shop
ends are 9'h and peak is 11'6", all open.

Would a mini split do the job?
What size unit abouts? A/C would be a nice addition.

On Long Island New York... we get freaky weather patterns.
How long would it take to warm up or at least break a good chill.
Not in there during the week until after work. I've read that they
dont operate/heat well under certain temps. Would like heat obv.

Or is a Hot Dawg 30 HDS w/ separated combustion natural gas
be better to heat up with?

I wrote this quick, need to explain more about the garage later on.

Thanks all for your time

It was 18* at my house the other morning. I turned on my mshp and it was blowing 130* air within 10 minutes. For that size space I'd do a 9kbtu unit.

heat pumps are great supplemental heat. They are the most efficient type of electric based heat period. The new heat pump systems even advertise that they will heat to temps below 10 dregrees F........ With that said, a 12k/cooling system rated for 10k heating simply will not really work that well for main heat that cold.

If you need to get 50-70 degrees, heat pumps are fantastic ! they will keep you running for the long haul. But for initial heating (which most of us need up in the north) to get your garage from "balltastic cold" to "workable" temps, you need a real heater.
