For the guys that have installed their mini splits.

What is the minimum hole size for the line size?

I have some areas of the attic trusses that I want to run some conduit for the line set and want to use an appropriate size. I also have some plate steel brackets that I might run the line set thru, which would require drilling large holes....

I know 3" would be ideal.... but would smaller work? i.e. 2"

My mini splits have different line set sizing per system. So double check the specs but I used a 2.5" core drill and plastic sleeve per unit. On the bigger linesets 2" would be tight imo.

To get power, insulated drain and line set in 2” without ripping the insulation, which came lead to condensation inside the wall and without kinking the line-set? Impossible for me at least. Also, in a really tight turn you may create a trap in the drain. It is also fun after you try to bend and form the damned soft copper that it work hardens in the first 1/8 of whatever turn you need. Be happy. Go bigger.

Take a couple of pieces of lineset foam and drain line put them together and see what you think. Personally I would not want to try much smaller, this is assuming you have 1/4 and 3/8 line.

Another personal opinion for the horizontal drain lines use 3/4 inch PVC with a good slope to it or you will end up with a mess. I did use the thinner wall schedule 40 pipe for my horizontal drain line.

I have not ordered a unit yet, so it is hard to just take components and check......

Thanks for the feedback... That confirmed what I was thinking.....
