Mini split indoor unit mounting bracket?

One of my installers puts up a sheet metal template at rough in. He has them pre-cut for each brand. It helps keep the other trades from moving his lines around and provides a base to screw the brackets to with more adjustability than just a pair of studs.

Definitely put some blocking in. Mine was a pain as I did not. If you can get the dimensions of the wall unit just try and keep the blocking away from where the lineset goes out or you will have some hole saw work. If you are not trying to center it then two 16” bays should give good screw holding area.

Every mini-split I've seen is wider than 16". So, if your studs are 16" OC, then you'll have no trouble finding two to connect with. And even if you can only find one, a good toggle near the side farthest from the stud should be enough to hold up most smaller units.
I've never seen one installed with blocking, and I can only imagine it making the job more difficult.

Every mounting bracket is different. Some are simple l brackets, some have a rail that tge brackets hang from, etc. Mine is mounted with a z shaped bracket that sits below the unit and holds it off the siding (bolts are in the foundation.

You are best to back it up with plywood or something of substance. The brackets are generally quite light. Last one I did, I carefully positioned and mounted the bracket, anchored as best I could w/16” centers and the top pulled away. Dismounted and put a toggle at top corners and it mounted correctly. If there is any give you can also pull it away when trying to close the evap. down onto the bracket.
