Most mini-splits have the piping going right out the wall behind the evaporators in my experience. On this one I just helped on the line set was installed in 2x4 walls and the line set had to lay across the back of the unit. The primary lament in that type install is how the heck do I get the insulated line set, drain and wiring in that little channel and be able to close the unit onto the mounting bracket. There was no way to do it with the insulated line set, period, and the line set has to stay insulated or the lines sweat and it is big problem. The guy I worked with on this brought a roll of foam tape. We cut the heavier line set insulation off ganged the lines together wrapping them with the foam tape. Even with that it was not easy to close, but it did. From now on if I do any more of these the foam tape is on hand.

When the lineset is roughed in during construction you have to do it that way. Also sometimes it’s better to go through the wall on that side instead of the typical (right) side for different reasons.

It’s perfectly doable, just gotta take your time. Slide both lines in the same foam tube for the part that’s behind the wall unit. Use foam tape to seal junctions and such.

I use 1/2 ID armaflex for 1/4+3/8 units, 5/8 ID for 1/4+1/2 units and 3/4 ID for 1/4+5/8.
