Mini Split install

Had Rotator Cuff repair so my friends came over and helped me install the Mitsubishi mini splits I bought for the living area above my garage addition. All I have to do is hook up the power, I have a guy that will test and evacuate it. I had planned on putting the outside unit on the ground and running the line sets and drains through the walls. After reading about the line sets getting hit during construction I decided to run all lines on the outside. I also decided to mount the outside unit up high out of the way.

Check the install specs to determine if Mitsubishi calls out a minimum line set length. I know Fujitsu has 9' on 9, 12 & 15 and 15' for larger.

Good luck on the RC. A good friend had it done on both shoulders over a 3 yr period. His shoulders were really junk, due largely to and over active mis-guided youth. I was there to watch but of course did not participate. He is delighted with the success. At 66 he is still misguided, just not over active. Good luck with your recovery.

Looks good.

Not too close to the wall, I've seen them practically touching and they still run fine. Lineset length doesn't matter, either - just make sure they're properly charged.

Why did you decide to mount the condensors so high? Looks like you had enough room to put them ground level. Just asking. They are bolted down, right?

Did you leave yourself enough room on both sides of the indoor units to dismantle the covers for servicing?

The instructions called for 4 inches of clearance, I put it that close so the drip from the roof would miss it. If I would have mounted the outside unit on the ground I would have had to remove some arborvitaes to get my riding mower through. I have had the covers off the inside units a couple of times while mounted on the wall. The wall bracket was made for that unit, I was amazed how well it was made.

Jack, thanks for the good luck, it's a bummer I missed my first season of snowmobiling in 44 years.

Looks like a nice install job.
What refrigerant does it run?

Your avatar doesn't list which part of the state you live so I guessed within the huge PSE area. PSE offers a 1200$ rebate which I thought was quite good.

After responding to your post I called the city, they had rebates in 2013 but not in 2014.

$1200 would have been nice, not having to pay a heating company to install the system has saved me well over $3000. One of the quotes was almost $9000, I bought all I needed for under $2900.

The PSE one does allow for a DIY installation. Oddly. It must be in a living area, not a bedroom, and it must be of a certain efficiency.
