Howdy all~

I purchased a new LG 24,000 BTU Mini-Split air conditioner for my shop. The unit is mounted and fully wired, tubing run, etc. but I need to get it pressure tested and filled.

What should it cost to check it and fill it? How long does it take?

I've talked to several of the HVAC shops here and bids range from $100.00 to $400.00 (ouch!) and they tell me they have to sit there for an hour while the pressure test completes. I'm not really inclined to pay $85.00/hr for somebody to eat their lunch.

Any Ideas?

I reciently replaced my home A/C system. I did the install myself and paid a HVAC guy $250 to solder up the copper lines, evacuate the system and add any R-22 I might need.

He took 2.5 hours. One hour to solder the pipes and 1.5 hours to evacuate and run the system to verify it was working. He did not have to add any additional R-22. The system comes pre charged with enough R-22 to work properly. If you have a very long line set, additional R-22 may be required.

Advice: Find a HVAC who does maintenance work, or condenser swap outs. The normal AC guys will not even give you the time of day. They all told me, since we did not install the system, we can not work on it. One guy even told me he could loose his AC certificate if he worked on my system. Total BS. They make thier money on the install, so they will not work for you at all. I had a friend who knew the guy I used. My AC guy had no problem showing up and making money for doing the work I needed.

Thanks for the info!

I contacted a local HVAC repair guy and he's coming out today to do the hook-up. Price? $125.00.

Hope he hurries, its supposed to be 104 today!

Thanks again,

Scott

Where did you buy your mini-split? How much do these units run?

LG 24,000 Btu Mini with 1 indoor unit works great in my 28x28.

bought it from Amroyal http://www.amroyal.com/ online for 1450.00 including a 30' tube set. I did the install, and the above mentioned repair shop hooked it up for $119.00.

I kinda have a hard time recommending Amroyal, but there's a bunch of shops out there. Amroyal delayed my ship for 2 weeks, but made up for it by sending me an upgraded 24k unit with a built in 12K heater (heat pump). I was already running a 75K Mr Heater gas heater, but I don't mind having a back-up plus I don't have to worry about sparks when I'm spraying Laquer.
