All: I have a 12.5' tall ceiling in my garage and am planning to install a 24k MrCool DIY unit. For Greater than 9' ceilings they recommend 90.5" from the floor and no closer than 5.9" to the ceiling. What kind of issues might you see if you mounted it 9.5' from the floor instead? I use wall storage extensively and having it another foot or two higher would help.

We have a 24k Fujitsu mounted about 11 ft above the floor, although it projects air into a raised floor area about 10 ft away that sits 3 feet higher than where the ahu is mounted. No issues.

They don’t want you to put it too close to the ceiling because that’s where the return air enters. If your use is primarily cooling, the cooler discharge air should drop nicely. In heating mode, you may find it beneficial to adjust the discharge angle more downward than the default, to keep your warm air from hugging the ceiling and not mixing well.

Mine 30K Daikin is mounted with the bottom 8.5' above floor with an 18' ceiling.

It works very well & is also not trying to cool all the hot air up near the roof.
