I would think so, but while reading on the install of my LG unit, if I were to try to pump it down, I would need to do something with the jumpers on the circuit board. Before you do anything, google your unit with the question and see what you get.
thanks, is your LG a multi zone unit? If you can pull a vacuum from that one port means all the zone piping is open to each other or not completely shut off. I can think of maybe your jumper open the zones up or keep a fan on or something.
I was able to find a video of a pro pulling it all from the low side service port.
I am not sure if it is best practice to dump the liquid charge back valve wide open into the system (at 21 minutes). Suppose the schrader valve is a small enough orifice so the liquid would turn to gas?

I have two LG units but the one I was referring to is a 3 ton single zone. Just put it in on Sunday. Well, actually I've been putting it in for the last two weeks but got it started yesterday.

I added more line set than what the unit came pre-charged for. Needed to put in 8.8oz more of R410A. I have a dual zone for the new addition that both units are backed next to. Couldn't get a good a good vacuum on that one since the core removal tool had the vacuum gauge flare pointing downward which gave me false readings on the sensor. The core valve would only fit one way which led to the vacuum port flare pointing down and thus the sensor pointed down. When pointing up, it is as accurate as can be. I'm still learning this trade. Always been fascinated with this **** since I was a kid.
Waiting on a 90º fitting to come tomorrow so I can wrap that one up.

If the repairs are on the lineset you can pump down the system without recovering.
If the repairs are « internal » then you can recover from the service port.

Yeah, I'm curious why you are reclaiming the refrigerant? If you didn't get a good enough vacuum why did you open it up? Maybe I'm reading this wrong though.

You may be confusing my post with the original posters message. I did not open my unit to reclaim refrigerant. Either way my specific unit *must* be opened to access the service ports and I was adding more refrigerant since my line set is longer than the manufacturer charged the unit for.
I have another unit right next to the one I pictured that I was vacuuming down to release the refrigerant but my tools were not up to snuff to complete that one.
