I have a 1000 sq.ft. carriage house (workshop) with 12 foot ceilings. It's very well insulated with 6" in the walls and 10" in the ceilings. I first thought 18,000 BTU"s but before ordering am thinking 24,000 BTU's. It would only be used when I'm out there for maybe 4-6 hours a day. Any suggestions?

My shop is around the same size as yours, although I have 14ft ceilings. My 18000 BTU mini-split does just fine controlling Georgia humidity and making it nice in the winter time.

I have a 24x36 with 14ft peak and I run a 24,000 BTU.. When its 100 F out side I can get it down to about 78 and hold it.. R13 in the walls and about a r19 at the roof... Not the best sealed place but a couple of fans and it cools down pretty fast...

As constructed I think the 18 will be sufficient. Many minis now have wireless controls so on the really hot/cold days you are going to be out there start it up early and let it stabilize the temp for you.

My shop is 1080 sqf, r13 walls, r 19 ceiling, 2 large garage doors, 2 windows, one wall partied to the house, 10 ft ceiling.
Ran a Fujitsu 12k extra low temp unit all winter, even when it went down to 7 degrees for a couple days the heat pump would cycle on and off, basically not stressed at all. 18k is all you need
