I have a 30x40 garage in Northwestern NJ, currently using a 25k window ac unit and it cools good, I can get it down to 63-64 degrees. My wife ******* about the electric bill if it hits $200 a month. I thinking of going to a high SEER mini split. If I'm ok with the performance of my 25k, will a mini split 25k do the same job cooling? Thanks

Mini split will probably cool better, as it's not leaking air around the frame.

For reference, I pulled a 12k and 9k window unit out and replaced it with an 18k mini split.

Last summer is struggle to keep house mid 70's. I can run it down to 65 now, and we've had several days in the 90's outside.

I would have a hard time replacing something that is already there and working just for energy savings.

Depends on your electric rates but I question if it would pay for itself.

Are you trying to just save energy, or are there any other reasons for doing the swap? What is the efficiency rating of your current unit? It should say it on the data plate sticker.

I also want additional heat when needed, currently have in the floor heat and keep it 50 in the winter

If its an old school window unit you could go with a smaller mini. If its a new heat pump style ac they will be closer in performance. Because you are also looking for heating I would probably spend the couple hundred over an 18k and go with a 24k. But an 18k would be close to a normal 24k window unit for cooling, most likely better. And cheaper to run.
