Mini Split Wall Brackets Questions...

I have a set of mini-split wall brackets that I ordered with the mini-split unit.

The place selling them says they are just fine for the unit.

The install manual says I need more than 12" from the back of the unit to the wall.

The bracket doesn't give me that option. The unit itself is 13" deep and the bracket is only 18" deep. So that only leaves me 5" between the wall and the condenser unit.

So would you believe them and install it, or would you fabricate something else to push the condenser farther off the wall?

The wall is 74 inches wide, and I plan on running the line-set out from under the eave and right over to the unit. I will probably go with PVC pipe as I can't bring myself to pay those crazy prices for line set covers again.

Since the main house compressor is right there in that nook, would a new compressor interfere with the old one if I mounted it up high above it?

This is the outdoor unit:

I would not mount it right above the old unit as hot air is coming straight up. I have seen several mounted on the brackets that are less than 12 inches from the wall and have been running a while, but I would like to see what the pro's say on here.

If you can mount it above the house unit but off to the side I think you will be OK.

Very nice unit BTW!

Thanks. It was on closeout or I wouldn't have bought a fancy one.

18,000 btu should cool down my 3 car garage enough to get me out there to finish painting it. I just keep putting it off because its so damned hot out.

I was thinking of the generic white unit, but this was the cheapest for the size I have seen in a known name brand. (Sanyo, Mitsu, LG, etc)

I plan on doing the entire install myself this time. I am not going to be in a hurry, but August and September are by far the hottest months of the year. So the sooner its going the better.

The compressor is 28" from the back wall, and 28" from the wall towards the camera. The wall farthest from the camera is only 16" away.

The plan was to put the new compressor high up on the wall.

Quick question. What's behind the wall next to your electric meter? Is that the garage? My main point is that you don't want the discharge air from the other a/c unit to interfere with the intake air of the LG unit. Another thing is if you put it high up on the wall in that nook, I'm seeing a vent of some sort up there. If that's the dryer vent, I'd find another place to do it. The dryer lint will really accumulate on the coils and greatly reduce the cooling performance of the LG unit.

The vent up high is the vent from the downstairs half bathroom.

The vent down low is the dryer vent.

The meter is on the side of the garage, but I can't put the unit on that wall because it would be visible from the street.

Ok, then your only option is to put it up high on that wall. If there is any possibility of extending the mounting bracket farther away from the wall (maybe using Unistrut) it would be beneficial to the operation of the unit.

So if I put it up higher on that wall, the lineset would have to go straight up for a few feet. Would I then need to put in a trap to make that work if the compressor is higher than the evaporator?

Why not mount it low, below the exhaust of the other unit? Or even on a pad like the other unit? Take out a little section of that flower bed and put a pad right there with the exhaust blowing away from your main unit.

So that is the dryer vent right behind the main unit? Do you have any issue with lint clogging your main unit?
