Mini Split with wired t-stat?

it seems all the mini splits I look at have a remote for temperature control. I have emailed a couple of companies and asked if they can be wired up with a regular Tstat instead of using the remote. both have said no, you must use the included remote control

are there any 9,000 btu mini splits that use an everyday wired t-stat?

Why would you want that? It would kill their efficiency.

They do have wired “remotes”. I believe that you have to use those if you want wireless control, but please confirm that. Your actual stat on a mini is the thermistor on the evaporator coil. All the modulation and operation tracks off the room temp and that coils temp.

I have a mr cool hyper heat 1800 btu unit that I complained about the range of the remote and then I said I wish there was a wired thermostat. They sent me one. It works great. Ingram’s water and air was my dealer. Great people.

Up I have been wandering the same. It’s amazing to me that they have taken one of the most reliable things in my house that I never have to look for or change batteries in and have managed to make it more complicated.

Many mini-split brands offer wired remotes.

What brand are you looking at?

GREE offer a wired remote on most (if not all) models.

I am looking for heating/cooling options in a rental, and don't want the hassles of tenant losing the remote .

OH. I use LG mini-splits in my basement. All the controls can be done through WiFi.

Also, there are cheap universal air conditioner remotes that probably would work for you too.

Looks like Daikins have a wireless interface (BRP072A43 Wireless Interface Adapter) - about $150 per unit.

Most of the major brands (Daikin, Mitsu (Trane), LG) can be controlled with a thermostat using an interface board. Google 'conventional thermostat interface' and your desired brand and you'll find which units support the typical R/Y/G/W thermostat wiring. The economy units likely won't support this, but I see them all the time in commercial buildings where we control them with the automation system.

Cost is $150~$250 for the board usually.

There are thermostat adapter boards available for many models. I have a Mitsubishi 24k mini split a friend gave me that I want to control with a Honeywell wifi thermostat I use for my Sterling heater. I'm sure there are other places, and I've read about DIY options if you're handy with electronics. That's just what came up when I was doing some research.

The factory control board is bit pricey, but considering I got the unit for free I'll go for it when I install it. I'd rather not have two thermostats and have to change batteries.

fwiw, there are 3rd party units with smartphon - apps- that will also send the correct commands...

Kinda like the logitech smart remotes for tvs, but more for the hvacs

I have 2 Mitsubishi mini-splits. They sell an adapter that allows you to use regular tstats - I used honeywell and they work well. I can get you more info if you need it.
