I need to purchase two mini splits next week. 9000 btu heat/cool. I don't need any big time SEER numbers as these will only be used occasionally so I'm looking for something decent in one of the off brands.

One will cool a 12x14 outdoor kitcken, the other will cool a 12x12 tool/reloading room with a bathroom in between. All connected by doors. 420 square ft. total. This structure will be inside of my 40 x 80 insulated pole barn. It seems that I can buy two small single units instead of one dual zone for less money.

I am in Louisiana so someone down south or east coast would be better for me to order from.

If any one has any advice or experience or knows of a good deal out there I would appreciate a heads up.

Outdoor kitchen is totally open? Get a misting system or fan with a mister. Only high pressure. And yes it will still work in a high humidity environment.

Nope. Both rooms and the bathroom will be insulated and drywalled. You NEED ac if your going to cook indoors in Louisiana in the summer.

I am in the market for exactly what you are needing.I found some good deals for new mini-split units on Craigs List. They are no-name Chinese -but you know where they live because you pick them up locally! The similar units on EBay are more expensive and if they break in 6 months you have no comeback.
Are you using 115v or 240v?
Just a thought.

Just a kitchen to use when a few racing friends are over. Fish frys, that sort of thing. It will have a standard 30" electric stove with a normal vent hood.

I'm also going to start gardening and can vegetables.

The friends going to be hanging out in the kitchen, or out in the pole barn?

Just thinking it might not be a bad idea to go with a larger unit for the kitchen. Oversizing on these units isn't nearly the problem it can be with traditional units. That said, in my days of racing, even 'shade' was awesome compared to being out on the pavement, so I'm sure it'll be nice. :)

The vent hood is going to be ducted to the exterior? Make sure you don't put the ductless split where it'll screw with the natural convection of air above the range to the hood.

AAAND...Don't put this thing anywhere near the fryer. In that environment you want to be using the exhaust hood while cooking, for sure. I have seen mshp's that were run right over a fryer in a commercial kitchen. I lifted the lid and it looked like the grease trap in the floor. Junque:shocking:

I agree that you should be looking at a bit larger unit in the kitchen area, given the exhaust velocity.

I agree with Jake; ACWholesalers are top notch, I purchased a LG unit and then required support from LG and ACW and it was a very good experiance. There out of Miami. Fast shipping.

The kitchen area will be 12x14. I was thinking 9000 btu would be plenty and if I needed more kick on the other 9000 btu unit and open doors. Actually if I'm doing and big time cooking it will be on butane burners in the shop area.

I will pay attention to that hood and the inside ac unit, good point.

Just food for thought...

A single "high power" burner on a gas range top can easily be 9,000 btuh. That means that your unit can only compensate for that single burner. Every other piece of equipment, every light, every person, and every wall/window, etc is all just bringing heat into the space that you cannot cover.

Yes, the hood will pull some of it.... but residential style hoods aren't that great.

Typical commercial kitchens run between 75 and 150 sq ft. per ton, and they have every effective exhaust hoods, make up air units, etc.

I just think a 1 ton (12k btu) unit is the better solution.
