I had a sales person out from a local company to talk to me about installing AC/Heat in my shop. The shop is 2400'. While he was out here I also asked him to give me a quote to replace my whole house fan, it went out the day before.

While discussing the whole house fan I explained to the sales person the way I've seen them installed on the internet. We went from an old type to the quiet type.

He said they didn't install them the way I explained. He said that was a real bad idea to install them that way.

Guess what, the installers are here installing it exactly as I explained. It kind of makes what I'm getting from him questionable.

His proposal for my 2400 shop, steel building 14' walls, 16' to the peak is questionable.

He has a unit going on my roof with ducting throughout the building. He never recommended a mini split. The installers today mentioned to me that it is possible to install a mini split in a 2400' building and it will be cheaper and more efficient.

Any truth to this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Good idea, nothing wrong with a conventional system, but yes, unless circumstances dictate the need or desire for a conventional setup, generally speaking a mini split is the cheapest way to cool an indoor space.

Look into Daikin or Westinghouse inverter central air. It's just as efficient as mini-splits. Besides, it might be tough to find a single mini-split that can push your large air space.

Depends on the dimensions of your space, you might have to get 2-3 mini splits to be compliant. That's gonna get expensive really fast ... but there's a lot of unknown here.
