My friend Mel gave me this little vise a while back. I found it in the tool box and decided to give it a make-over. :)

As you can see, it's really small...

I pulled it all apart and, after knocking off all the lose rust and grunge, I soaked in a bit of POR's Metal Ready... This stuff works very well. I use it for all of my de-rusting needs.

This is the Metal Ready at work. you can see it bubbling and starting to foam.

After about 20 minutes this is what the solution looked like.

:shocking:

And this is how the parts looked... Pretty amazing.

I cleaned up a lot of the casting flash and shot the parts with some hot rod red.

After the parts baked in the sun all day I reassembled the vise and set it on the new bench alongside it's big brother. He is do for a make-over also.

I will mount the vise to a piece of 1/8th inch plate so it is easier to clamp to the bench.

Great job on the restoration, looks awesome! Do you know who made the vise? It looks like it would be very handy.

Thanks guys! I thought it turned out nice.
There are no makers marks what-so-ever on the vise, so there is no telling who made it.

Sweet! Great job. I'm really digging the white step side pickup. I had a 1990 Chevy pickup.
