Mini Wilton Vice identification

Hello,

I found this unique Wilton Vise in a lot I bought at an auction. I haven't been able to find any information on this vise anywhere. The one jaw has the number 1125-8 and the other 1125-9 and it was made at the schiller park plant.

You have a jewelers vise mounted on a power arm. They are great for electronics and other small stuff. They won't fetch as high a price as a Wilton Baby Bullet on a power arm, but they're still great to have. My guess is that there is a retainer clip missing from the main screw. Should be an easy fix.

If I had it, I'd restore it and keep it.

KC: I agree with Mark. nice little vise. I'm not sure what the clip or retainer part looks like because i've yet to see that vise in person, but maybe if you post up a picture in this thread you can get some answers.

or post up pictures on the vise repair 101 thread in vintage tools section. i use the paper clip to post pictures that is just above where you write your posts. that way you have a picture posted on the post and some of the guys that don't like or know how to use a link can see them.

Thanks for the info n the vise and the picture posting. The clip is missing. I had removed it to see if I could find any additional numbers and my wife came through and cleaned up so now I just need to find the clip in my jars of miscellaneous screws. When I restore it should I paint the vise portion red and remove the rust from the power arm like the picture above?

KC: your vise your color is a good rule we like to tell people asking about color choices. are you planning on keeping it? paint it any color you like because you'll be looking at it all the time. or paint a design on it like one member let his sister do and here's a picture.

or there are many examples of vise colors in the main vise thread and verde hammered green comes to mind as one of the most popular. personally i like my vises naked and i put BLO on them (boiled linseed oil) like the big Reed 4c in the picture.

Most of the time, on smaller Vises, I use an E-clip or a snap ring. I recommend that you place a washer or bushing between the clip and the jaw body. That will tighten up the jaw movement.

I have on occasion welded a washer to the lead screw in place of a clip on very cheap Vises.

I've also used shaft collars on higher quality Vises.

I would like to thank all of you for you advise. As much as I like the blue, green and white with the 3 (I am a Seattle native, Go Hawks), I'm going to go naked with BLO stripping it with my needler. There was another one that I got in the same lot at the auction but at least the swivel is made in china. That one will meet my needs toolwise and I think I am going to keep the jewelers vise as a toy. First two vices I've ever owned and I'm already looking for more. Just missed out on this one on Offerup, I was the second person to respond. If you haven't used Offerup yet, it is way better than Craigslist.
