Title basically states it.

I'm looking at how deep of a trench I need to dig for conduit to run 100A service to a subpanel. House is located in Placerville, Calif better known as El Dorado County.

Here is a picture:

I'm going from the red area at the house to the blue on the shed. It is approximately 15-20 feet.

So I've got the following questions:
  1. What is minimum depth of the trench? Pavers will be installed over the area but no heavy weight.
  2. Is there any "filler" medium for the trench? Sand fill, etc? In the past days of construction, I recall sand being needed around gas line.
  3. Is there a particular conduit I need to use?
  4. Can the panel be mounted inside the shed vs exterior mount like the house?
  5. Is there a conduit I can use to run multiple circuits between the shed and the garage? (~3 feet between the two) An electrical sub claimed I could do the sub panel in the shed and then do some heavy duty conduit between the two.

PVC conduit needs 18 inches of cover, Rigid Metal conduit needs 6 inches of cover.

Panel can be outside if it's the proper type panel for outside.

Only one feeder circuit providing power can be run to the shed and then to the garage.

I'll add to this, if you're running through a location with vehicle traffic you will need 24" of cover in that area. Driveways, etc...

24 inches is needed as Aceman added for all conduit types under drives. 24" is also needed for direct bury cable. In a trench below 2" of concrete direct bury is 18", PVC is 12" and RM is 6". The only exception when it comes to voltage is the circuit needs to be 120V and 20 amps or less and GFCI protected then the depth can be less.

Is that 18" because it will be under concrete pavers? I thought I needed 24" for 240 to the shop's subpanel but mine was under dirt.

Rule of Thumb

Everything needs to be 24" Deep

If your not under a Driveway, you can subtract 6" for Ridged Conduit, another 6" for a 2" Sand Bed, and another 6" for a 2" Concrete Cover

Those are not NEC requirements. Maybe JoeFin Codes.:lol_hitti
