I know, I know...the drain line is supposed to be 3/4" and like an idiot I installed 1/2" pvc.

But, hear me out: as a newb to this I simply measured the inside diameter of the drain line that came with the unit, which is 5/8". Because it is a flexible tube and I ran the drain through the crawl space, I wanted to replace it with something that I could easily slope and insulate correctly. So I replaced it with 1/2" pvc (which on average is 5/8" inside diameter).

I know now that this is not code. However, I am curious to know if am in for future problems or if this is simply a universal code that captures all hvac of all sizes and thus technically oversized for this particular application.

Do I need to replace the 1/2" for 3/4"?

I would not replace it until i had any issues myself, if ever. I wouldn't worry about the size difference at all.

How did you attach the factory drain to the PVC?

My factory drain slipped nicely into 3/4 PVC coupling and then I just ran 3/4 from there not knowing the code.

Thanks for the response. I thought I was being slick by putting a 1 ft. Piece of 1" PVC (to accept the drain like you did) and then coupled a reducer down to 1/2" for the remaining 25 ft.

Just another idiot with a hammer so I do not know the appropriate technical answer. However what is sold as mini drain line has a 5/8 inch inside diameter or 0.625, schedule 40 1/2 inch PVC has an ID of 0.622 in an insignificant difference and scheduled 80 ID is 0.546 not enough of a difference to lose any sleep over.

Here in Fl vacuuming drain lines is part of regular maintenance for most. Also might want to find something for the end to keep critters out.
