Does anyone know anything about the manufacturer of Mintcraft tools? I can't seem to locate a website for them.

Anything good or bad to say about them?

Thanks,

Scott

Well I bought a pair of 24" bolt cutters today and the guy at the hardware store told me they were USA made, which is what I wanted. So now I am doing my research after I made the purchase. :headscrat

Yeah, today is the first time that I heard of the Mintcraft name. Might be one of those well kept secrets. Or Chinese junk. I can always return them if they really aren't what I wanted.

Well I am having doubts that the 24" Mintcraft bolt cutters that I just bought are American made, even though the hardware store guy said they were. There is a residue on the handle from what I would guess to be a removed label - maybe stating country of origin? Plus when I see what appears to be the same bolt cutters in the ebay auction that fourfeathers posted for $22, well that puts them in the same price range as the Chinese made cutters that Sears, Northern Tool & Ace Hardware sell. I paid $33 for the Mintcraft cutters versus the $20 price of the Chinese cutters at the above listed stores, so at the time I really thought I was paying a little more for an American made product. Not so sure now.

Plus, when I compare the Mintcraft cutters to the Cooper Tools/H. K. Porter brand, there is a major price difference. The Do It Best hardware website lists the general purpose bolt cutter model 0190AC for $63 and the industrial grade model 0190MC for $100. I don't think this is an apples-to-apples comparison, but the big price difference makes me all that more suspicious.

Also, from the ebay link, it appears that Mintcraft is a line carried by Soundbest International. Never heard of them, but I am trying to find out who and what they are.

So I am on a mission to see if these Mincraft bolt cutters are US made or another Chinese import. I'll report back when (if?) I find out.

Later,

Picked up a Mintcraft socket today - bought a cheap one because I figure I might have to grind on it to fit a recess. Quality looks pretty good - will see how it works out.

From what I found Mintcraft sells everything under the sun: auto, shop and garden tools, bathroom, kitchen and garden accessories. You name it, they sell it. Their products are all over the web but like you, I could find no link to the company . The domain name Mintcraft, net is for sale if that means anything. It is unbelievable that a company selling so much stuff has no contact information. My guess is that, like some companies that want no contact at the consumer level and only use Mintcraft as a brand name but actually deal with the trade under another name. A copyright check might show who owns the name.

UPDATE. MintCraft is a trademark owned by Orgill Inc. or Orgill Bros. of Memphis,TN. They do have a web site advertising to the trade to supply "all your hard good needs". How helpful they would be with information or warranty issues would only be found out by trying. I got the info by searching for the owner of the Mintcraft trade mark on the government site. Call me Sherlock Holmes.

To add to the information already posted, Orgill is a supplier like ACE (Ace brand tools) or Tru-Value (Master Mechanic) so you'll find their brand in small hardware stores. Everything I've ever seen has been Asian origin. Sockets, ratchets etc.. seem to be largely Taiwan but they look very good and by that I mean good fit and finish and nice chrome.

Always operate under the assumption its imported unless its stamped. Nine times out of ten if they aren't etching or stamping the COO on something they don't want you to know.

That explains why every hardware store around here carries that stuff then. I live about 10 miles south of Memphis.

You can go to Amazon and search Mintcraft, they sell/distribute all kinds of stuff. I never heard of them until about a year ago, when I bought a garden hose brass shut-off valve. The package said "manufactured exclusively for Orgill." Mintcraft & Orgill don't make anything, they get it manufactured in Asia by contract manufacturers. They seem OK for small misc hardware, but don't think the tools are too good.

Nothing special. Just modern American made mass produced garbage. I’m sure it will work for your purpose but don’t expect it to be an airloom tool.
