I'm thinking of building a steel building that will be my workshop. Anyone have any feedback on Miracletruss or any other steel building outfit? Tanx.

Miracletruss is one of the strongest out there. But you will never mistake it for anything but a metal building. Style is not their strong point.

Do you plan to erect it yourself?

If not, locate local steel building erectors and find out if they will even do it, and if not, which brands of regular steel buildings they prefer.

There are dozens, no hundreds of regular steel building manufacturers out there, some good, some bad, and many average ones. You should look at them also if you are thinking of a steel building. Its a huge market and you need to do lots of comparison. MT and others sell because they do lots of nationwide advertising, not because they are an exceptionally good building (not saying they are bad, just that they are not the hugely great building everyone seems to think they are). As I said, there are lots of good metal buildings out there.

You don't say where you are located. Location, due to shipping costs is a big thing. That is partly why I said to look around locally. If you are in the southeast, I can suggest one or two metal building manufacturers that I know are good. One is a Rolls-Royce of metal buildings, and priced accordingly, the other is a Ford of metal buildings and you won't go wrong with it either. I've seem some that a Yugo could put to shame.

I'm looking for the building to be 30' x 60' w/ 100 amp service and a toilet and sink. Concrete floor an I intend to erect teh building myself. I'll sub out the foundation, electrical and plumbing.

One concern I have is permits. I assume that most of these manufacturers provide blueprints. Due to my living in earthquake country (Northern CA on the coast), I'll probably have to have them tweaked by a draftsman before applying for the permits.

I also live in a relatively rural area and it aint an easy drive to get to. Shipping charges will be another cost I'll have to consider.

You're right, there do seem to be a million of these guys out there. I found out about MiracleTruss from Old Cars Weekly.

I was looking at miracle truss when I built mine and they were about the most expensive option out there. They were great to talk to on the phone but I about fell over at the price. You may want to try www.adamstruss.com It's the same style building at about half the cost. FWIW I ended up doing a pole building.

I also used Adam's Truss. Shipping from Arkansas to California would be a killer. I erected mine without any problems. They sell the metal frame only or will provide sheet steel and insulation. You might consider ordering the trusses from them and buying the rest locally.

I priced Miracle Truss before I built and they were way off base price wise.

An "engineer's stamp" on a set of plans can cost a bunch. Metal building suppliers in your area most likely have approved plans for their products. You might talk to your local code office about your proposed building and see if they can give you the names of approved building suppliers.

Around here, you can have a metal building errected by a contractor for about the same price as a "package" sold directly to you. Contracters, particularly regular customers, get very steep discounts. So I suggest you contact some builders and see what a turn key job would cost. You may be surprised.

Pictures show my Adam's Truss building. Note hybred wood - metal framing and the solid metal posts. Adam's truss offers these as an upgrade. Miracle Truss has web posts.

Hope tis helps. Good luck!

Miracletruss is located in North Illinois. About half way between Waukegan on the lake shore and Rockford in the middle of the il/wi state line.
So shipping to ca. would be something to think about.
Go to a few local county fair sites. The animal sheds are often this style of building. Look for a mfg tag on the building or ask one of the site maintenance people. You should be able to find a local mfg.

I did some research on steel buildings last year, and although MT has some great features/benefits, they are super pricey compared to local contractors (at least in Tucson AZ). We went with a local company that normally builds large commercial buildings and had some down time to build our smaller structure. They were wrapped up in about 10 days, and the finished product was phenomenal. It was also really great to have a local person to do site surveys and work, and to deal with permitting and structural certifications. Unless there was no one local to work with on your steel building I would suggest exploring that route. Otherwise MT may be the way to go.

This is the breakdown of my estimates for this building - 30x60'x10':

Trusses, side posts and skins - $20,000
Foundation - $10,000 (100 cu yds @ $100 / cu yd)
Electrical - $5,000
Plumbing - $5,000
Shipping - ???????
Labor - free (I'm cheap)
Other materials (lumber, windows, doors, etc) - $10,000

Am I way off here? If I can get a feel for what some of you guys have paid I can tweak my estimates to N. CA prices.

Looks like a typical MT over priced deal to me!
Here is a current quote for a building shipped to your location from the place I got mine from and it doesn't require any lumber it's a red iron frame. I didn't add any options to it as you didn't list any on your quote either ie. framed openings, colored roof panels, gutters, etc...

Code CBC 2001 Wind load: 80 exp: C Sie: 4 AA: 0.4
30X60X10 Slope 1:12
2 bays at 30'

$9,222.60

I just built a 30x72x12 pole building. I'm right at $20k with concrete and doors. I did most of the work myself.

I'm right in the middle of building a Web Steel 40 x 56' with a 29 x 20' shed room. They're located close by me in Sandy Or. I think their buildings are almost the same as Miracletruss. I ordered it with 18" eves to give it a better look and keep the rain away from the side walls as much as possible. I'll be posting more pictures some time today.

Good Luck,
