Over the years I have seen some crazy mislabeled things on Ebay that sold for really cheap prices. The one that I saw last night was really funny/sad. It was a Wilton C3 vise with 6" jaws and it sold for.........$160.00 It was not in bad shape at all. In fact it would not have really required much beyond a grease job and wipe down. The paint was fine.....no bent handle....looked like a body shop vise. Weight was listed as 192 pounds and it was local pickup only. Replacement cost is about $1700.00 It was listed under garden tools.....sigh.
Next item (or items) were 2 Snap On ratchets that I bought last month. They were listed as Snpon Rachts 3-8 and Snpon Rachts 1-4. They were used but in nice condition and the 3/8 inch one was a flex head. Prices were $25.00 for the larger and $20 for the smaller one. Combined shipping was $10.00. I was the only bidder.
Anyone else ever see mislabeled Ebay things?

my best deals from ebay come from the word gauges spelled "guages". Helps when restoring the old British/ Italian / Geman cars.

i was the winning bidder of a MATCO 19.2v cordless drill w/ 2 batteries, new condition. ended up paying like $50 to my door for it :)
recently too many people are using sites like auctionbloopers.com which searches any possible misspelled variations. items are selling for as much or if not more than if the words were spelled correctly, unless it's an unpopular item.

I have a DAKE 25 ton hydraulic press. It was listed on ebay as a DRAKE and was listed as a 10 ton instead of 25 ton. Someone looking specifically for a DAKE would have missed it, and anyone who looked at it would have passed it up since they would have not wanted a measly 10 ton. I knew it was a 25 ton and bid and won it. Someone attempted to snipe it but I beat them out. Drove me up from the minimum bid by $42. Had to drive from Atlanta to Woodbridge, NJ to get it however.

The omittance of key item numbers, or phrases as simple as "socket, ratchet, wrench" will cause some incredibe buys as well.

The most common way to get deals is to watch the auctions that people have ending in the morning on week days.

The vise was probably a fair sale given the local pick-up only but "Vice" sure didnt do him any favors.

I have yet to find a Snap On item that no one else did that is worth bidding on. I find lots of mispelled titles but the starting bids have always been more than the item is worth. I notice Snap On items listed as broken many times sell for more than in working condtion or even new Ebay prices. The deals I find are items that just got ignored for no reason.

only true way to score is the offbrands/less popular names and items. also the ones that end late at night or early morning bring lower bids.

Looking for mislabeled things works for Craigslist too. Since I rarely browse single categories I tend to use search functions which gets items from all categories which has the downside of giving you lots of irrelevant results.

Since I'm looking for a nice hydraulic jack, I've been searching the term "jack" on CL which brings up tons of things with jack like every car listing since the dealers all list a jack as an included feature, electronic items that have a headphone jack as well as a variety of other items besides my desired automotive hydraulic jack.

just remember, there's always another deal around the corner.

I found my Record vise on CL labeled as a "bench press". Got lucky because I was/am also looking for an arbor press.

Porch and Porshe items are often much cheaper than Porsche stuff too. Best deals I've seen on craigslist are not so much improperly described or worded, as ignorant of the way craigslist's search engine works, as in a 928S will not show up in a search for 928.

OTOH I haven't seen anything really good on CL for close to a year.

Ive been doing misspelled searching on ebay for a decade now, I would buy and sell Ford Diesel parts. Long before ebay helped people spell I loved doing the "DEISEL" search, I would buy the parts and flip them back on ebay.

I also do searches by part numbers, I managed to buy 8 OEM Ford Factory Replacement Injectors for my 2002 Powerstroke for under $35 a unit. Cheapest I paid for one was $13.00 and some change. They listed out back then from Ford around $700 a unit. Even a good deal being that aftermarket today still gets around $150 for a rebuilt unit. All the injectors had little to no info in the title or description, but did have the part number.

I sold my 430,000 mile used injectors for $500 on ebay,....! Which shows what a deal I got on new ones. I used to have it down to an art, but allot of sellers have left, and I dont find the deals as much anymore.

Ive also found several good deals when looking for "A" and stumbled onto "B" Another example, I was searching for "OTC" and found a nice CLC Tool Belt, with 3 bags with it for $1 from a pawn shop. I bought it of course. Guys looking for tool belts are searching for OTC, and the guys looking for OTC are not looking for tool belts ! Unless your a jack of all trades like me..!

I bought a station wagon off of eBay this week.

The seller only listed it as a "1966 Ford" with no other reference to model.

Needless to say, I snatched it up on the cheap. The seller told me he could not understand why it did not run up higher.

You know this was a good deal because this is the second wagon I bought this week!

Anyone know a really good divorce lawyer?????

If you want the good deals you have to put in the time. I always look in craigslist general category. I have found some great deals. I also tend to look at items that don't have pictures. This can be a waist of time, but can also pay off big.

A couple months ago I was looking for a bigger torch set. There was a simple listing for a "large torch set $100.00". I emailed him and told him I would buy it. The next day I showed up there and he had the largest set you can take in and fill with a cart and victor journeyman torch and regulators. I asked him why he was selling and he said he was moving down south and if I wanted anything else in the garage speak up!!

I ended up buying the entire garage. I am still going through all the stuff.

You can sometimes score with pictures that are just BAD. I bought a NOS bumper guard for my 53 Chevy wagon over Ebay for $22. because of a lousy picture. Very blurred. All others were $75 and go. I was happy.

What kind of injectors are those???????

Powerstroke Diesel Injectors. F18Z-9e527-**, I dont remember the old suffix, they have been replaced by CRMs, which are rebuilts now, and have come down to $357 list per unit. I did this 5-6 years ago.

Guys would go to the Ford dealership auctions, buy a bunch of parts and list them on ebay having no clue what they where. Most of the time, whatever very generic term that was on the box label, is what they would use for the title, so I would search by part number.

If you dont look up the parts, or have a way to do it, and dont know what it is, or how much $ they cost new, some guys would just start out at $10 a piece with no reserve. If they had added the word diesel or powerstroke to the title, they would get a couple hundred per injector. I think core on them is still over $150 per injector. I was buying straight out, no core.
