Misplaced 3 tools . . . I think

So I thought I misplaced 3 tools but they are an odd 3 tools to misplace.

One is my flex head bent handle ratchet - but no sockets are missing off my rail(s)

The other is my brand new 13 x 15mm metric double box end wrench but the last time I used anything out of that set it was 17mm for an oil change.

And third is my 12mm combo wrench.

S/O, Matco, S/O so its gonna be pricey to replace. I think they might be in the snow (fat chance) should I ask my neighbors if they "borrowed" them as to not blame them from stealing some tools? I don't think someone stole them because you would think they would take all the wrenches not 2 and not 2 from different sets/brands. I think someone borrowed them and haven't given them back yet. 2 years no issues since I moved into this place now I gotta lock the box again.

I would ask the wife/kids if they loaned the lost tools. Or father if he has access to the garage. Then go to the neighbors. Hopefully it is someone that is 'authorized' to be in the tools and just forgot to return the tool. I had a rule with family that borrowed, tools were to be returned to the benchtop, not put in drawers as invariably they would end up in the wrong drawer or cabinet.

Had something similar to this happen before and found the tools: once in the attic and another time under a bathroom sink cabinet. In both cases I had the tools out to do a specific job and I guess I just "put them away there"

Maybe if you can remember what job you did that would have required these specific tools might help. When you find them it will be "Oh, yeah, I was fixing that water valve"

I suppose it is also possible your kids or neighbors could have just borrowed them.

Although, I do recall, on one occasion all of my tools were stolen and replaced with exact duplicates.:bounce:

I would make sure you didn't lay them some where and forget about it. I was up in our attic looking for something the other day and found my tape measure I lost two years ago.

Reminds me of when I started fixing my snowblower right before a major snowstorm (Yeah, no minute like the last minute!) By the time I finished the job there was probably an inch of snow on the ground. Couldn't find my car keys anywhere. Fortunately had another set but, as you've probably guess, once the snow melted my car keys reappeared.

I hate loosing a tool out of a set, especially when replacements are difficult or expensive to obtain. The empty spot where the missing item goes just taunts me every time I look at it.

Good luck finding your missing items.

The kids are using the ratchet as a hammer to drive nails into a piece of wood and the wrenches as pry bars to remove them!

............ask me how I know this (My own early tool use).

Ill keep it in mind. I have a couple other places to look.

We could have a whole thread on how we used to abuse dad's tools. When I was 7 or so, my friend's skateboard layers were peeling up. So we found some wood glue but couldn't find clamps. So we found these special "clamps" that were in my friend's dad's garage. Turned out we used micrometers to clamp together his skateboard!

I had 3 little palm ratchets, a nice SK one and 2 no name ones. I noticed one day that I only had 2. Checked around and then cursed, figuring I probably left it in the engine bay. The tool most likely ended up on the road someplace, a candidate for the "Tool found in the road " thread.

Fast forward about a year and I need a new ****** for my car. I pick up the car and there's my palm ratchet in the console!

I once lost a set of keys to the company truck for almost 6 months. They were in my summer hat, hanging on the hat tree the whole time.
Chances are you, your kids or your wife misplaced them and they will show up.
In the meantime, if you really need them, buy cheap and hope or buy good and they will show up tomorrow. YMMV

So I remember using them last! I tightened up the alternator belt on my wife's Honda a month ago. I also remember not putting them away right away because I had to head to the airport. But I can't remember where I placed them. I hope I didn't put them in a box then throw away the box.

I was missing a 3/8 ratchet to a 60's set my father had. I had a similar one, but it had owners marks. I couldn't figure out where I left it, even wondered if it got mixed up with someone else's but didn't think I took it anywhere. One day I thought I would look under the hood of my Camaro that hasn't been on the road in 5 years. There it was along with 2 snap on 1/2" ones that I hadn't even missed. Goal is to get back to the Camaro this summer.

Turns out the wife pawned them.

Unless you are broke it would be a good time to have a talk with your wife, and ask why she would pawn your tools. I said something about this to my wife, and her eyebrows shot up, and asked if she had already pawned all of her stuff. I would be REALLY curious to know what necessitated this.

I need to put that damn SnapOn box someplace else, it's not used... & possibly put away that carb that I appear to be using for drill chuck storage..

man i'd be passed pissed. her pawning it is one thing but taking property that isnt hers is theft. Definitly lock your tool box and any other valueables. If she didn't have a 1000% concrete reason for even doing what she did I'd be moving out with said tools.

That snap-on box picture is the reason that I am looking for a mid-box to put on the bench. I really wish some of the box manufactures would make some boxes without flip-up lids and front covers for full time bench storage that was not hampered by all the stuff that gets on top of them. Last job I was at I had a Mac box that I assume was a mid box and I have not been able to find anything similar as it was a deep box with no lid and 4 or 5 drawers.
