Missing the point

Saw this as part of a Stanley tripod flashlight product description.

A glowing ring shows whether the flashlight is on or off, so you can quickly tell if it has been left on by accident and the batteries need to be switched.

So if it's left on and batteries are good, wouldn't you see the beam of light from the LED?

And if it's left on and batteries are depleted, what the heck is powering the glowing red ring?!

I guess the ring LED is always on unless the batteries are dead? So before you go to use your flashlight, you can quickly notice that oh, that stupid ring indicator thing killed a set of batteries again; better put in a fresh set.

It just sounds like a pointles feature to me.

The flashlight also has a limted lifetime warrantee. Then it say that the warranty is for the usable life of the flashlight not to exceed 1-year. This is all after they say the flashlight is reliable.

Not necessarily if the light is placed lens down. Some manufacturers put cutouts in the lens retainer to allow light to shine out.

Most flashlights I have (all Mag lights, Streamlights and a couple others) are flat and flush on the lens end. If I leave the light on and set it face down on a hard surface, the light is blocked. If I forget this and leave the light running, dead batteries. Some of the lights I have (a Husky, a couple Kobalts, the SureFires) come with "crenelated" or notched lens bezels that allow some light to sneak out, making it less likely to leave them running. A few others (Coasts, some no-names) have little holes in the perimeter or a glowing band around the lens end. I have a Dorcy that has a light on the opposite end that is also a battery indicator. Leave it face down and the opposite end reminds one that it is on.

The other thing is that LEDs run off of....(the name escapes me) but basically they will not run if the batteries are low. That is why battery powered LED lights "flick" on for a second and then turn off when the batterys are dead. My guess is that the glow will stay going to indicate the switch is on, but if the light is not on then it means your batteries need to be replaced.
