Just got a Ridgid jointer JP06101 for $50 with missing
motor. I had sold my grizzly jointer and dewalt planer a while back
thinking I would quickly replace with something much better, but
this was a super cheap interim solution. the motor mounts to a plate
with slots, so I should be able to put in almost any sort of foot mounted
motor.
So my options are
a) replace w/original motor which was supposedly a decent
110/220v 1hp induction motor 3450rpm TEFC. >$300 and not worth it.
b) get someone to snap a picture of the motor dataplate and find one
very close which I'm guessing will be ~$150
c) install any cheap 1/2hp+ motor plus a compatible pulley. I can
probably do almost free (have leftover 1hp and 2hp motors).
d) find a 3 phase motor and do a 220v to 3phase VFD with
some sort of speed control. there
are lots of little ones under $50-$100 (I helped with a more $ VFD conversion
on our restaurant hood a year ago that worked out very well)
e) ???
Anyone have any advice of direction to go?
If I don't go VFD, any advice on what cutterhead speed I should target? the
replacement motor pulley is available for $16 if I get a motor with
the same shaft size/keyway
It's a solid heavy jointer with a decent dust chute, and I noticed
that there are even Byrd Shelix heads for it if I wanted at a later date.
Thanks,
Allan
