Mistadobalina's First Garage - 32' x 40'

Hey everyone, I've been a lurker on Garage Journal for years, and decided that it's finally time for me to make a thread of my garage.

My wife and I bought our first house together in January of this year, with my only stipulation being garage/workshop space. I ended up with a 32' x 40' oversized 3-car garage, with an additional loft space.

Current use of the garage is for vehicle maintenance, boat maintenance/upgrades, miscellaneous house projects, and starting on some "wood working" projects. I find fascination in trying to do something at least once before I pay someone, so this thread will likely be a culmination of my paltry attempts at fixing/building things.

Anyways, I know the rules of forums. Pictures, pictures, and more pictures. This first round of pictures is from when we first walked through the place, so all of the junk in the garage is previous owners.

After we moved into the house, I convinced the wife that I needed to get the garage in order so that I could then start on house projects. So, I began drawing and building my workbenches.

Primary workbench is the 36" high workbench with the peg board. The higher work bench is at 42", which doubles as my miter station.

The rolling assembly table is also at 36", which nests underneath the left side of the miter station.

The 36" work surfaces are the same height as my table saw, which allows me more infeed/outfeed surfaces.

Although I never had a garage or workshop space before, I quickly accumulated tools. This allowed me to fill out my garage space fairly quickly.

The garage is a little bit more put together now, but there's still a long way to go. I primarily need to finish drywalling/osb/paneling the ceiling in order to keep the insulation from falling.

Having a shell of a garage to outfit is a bit of a catch 22. You need a shop to make the benches, cabinets etc for the shop:) But obviously the shop isn't done yet.

Congrats on your first house and a garage with potential.

Nice space. Is that red box your furnace?

Please share with us your convincing arguments which allowed the garage to be completed first. Usually it’s the other away around.

Thanks! Yes, that is my wood burning stove. Its a Brunco stove, and it heats up the place nicely. I had it going during the -10* temps in February, and it made it bearable in the garage. Working in long sleeves rather than full coat.

As far as convincing arguments, I'm not entirely sure how I did it. The garage isn't going to be completed first, I was just getting the work surfaces done and some organization started. We're now working on the house and landscaping/exterior projects while the weather is decent.

Thanks! It made things difficult building on the floor initially, but I'm extremely grateful to have a closed in space to work now.

I get just a little jealous every time I see someone who has the time and skill to work with wood. Those are great looking benches man! You make me look like a hack!

That loft is big and nice :)
