Got this box of miter gears in an auction lot I purchased. Would appreciate any information anyone could give me about them or these types of gears in general. I couldn’t find anything online except for different prices for similar ones of different brands. These specific ones are from Gear Specialties, Inc. of Chicago Illinois. Thank you.

These would be used for any type of propulsion driving a shaft. In the line shaft era they would be found in factories when shafting would branch off from the main line, as htmdude57 noted, whenever a 90* directional change was required.

I used a lot of them for custom production machinery. Just order the size and bore you need for the purpose.

Good to know. Thanks to all for the information. Think I’ll put them on eBay, maybe someone has use for them. Anyone have any idea how much each would sell for if anything? They come in sleeves of 6 individually wrapped in paper.

You can probably find info on them at McMaster. Most of the ones I have dealt with were for lower speeds, so there is probably a variety of metals and harnesses available.

We use them for slow speed applications like power doors on machines, or raising the height of parts of machines. Don't know of any high speed applications in my little world.
