All,

Looking for !ore miter sawbstand ideas like the ones I have attached. I am looking to build my own but it has to fold up or collapse to something smaller. I want to jeep it simple. Does anyone have similar ideas to what I have attached. I don't have the luxury of room so it has to be compact. I am not looking to build a rolling cart with foldout material supports or wings either. Thanks in advance for your input.

What are you planning on doing with it once you build it? What I mean is, are you going to be taking it to job sites, or is it strictly for the shop?

If it is strictly for the shop, you may want to consider building it so that it is attached to the wall but can be folded down when not in use. That way it takes up very little space when not in use but can be set up quickly when needed.

I just bought one from Sears for 60.00, folds up, has extended arms, no wheels, but for the money it was a win win. And folds up when not in use

A guy I know does remodel work and he has one of those. He loves it. I have debated getting one too. Only thing is, I have a Ryobi stand that works reasonably well and I hate to buy another one when the one I have works acceptably well. I just wish I had seen the DeWalt stand before I bought the Ryobi stand.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the Dewalt DWX723. $200 and it would be money well spent

I have the shorter version of this. It lacks the extensions that the bigger stand has but in my line of work they are worthless (for exterior trim jobs material is long and heavy). I just screwed a block of wood on either side that holds 2x at the proper height for support. I think it was around $90 including the brackets for the saw.

I have the Ridgid MSUV and have no complaints. I have the older model which has extendable legs for the extensions to keep them level and is more stable. see if you can find one of these.

I bought my msuv last year for Christmas on sale for $100. It's the only reason I didn't return my stupid heavy 12" slider and buy a 7" slider. I love it man

I have this miter saw stand by Delta 50-155. I don't know if they make this stand anymore, but I love the large wheels for transportation up and down stairs. Plus it folds up to a small foot print.

I wanted easy portability so I mounted my saw to a piece of OSB that can be clamped on to my workmate. That way it's very easy to transport to the jobsite. I just use a few roller stands for the extensions.

Just got this Delta as an early Christmas gift - absolutely love it. Practically sets up and takes down on it's own. Used a Stablemate before this - it was OK, but had to remove the saw for transport and storage.

Agreed, I looked at these for two years before I finally bought one. I had previously built my own based on a hand truck and this is much more versatile. Quick to setup, very stable and the extensions are in the same plane as the saw. Just bight the bullet and get on with life.

My Hitachi clamps right to the top of my Workmate. That and two sawhorse work well for me.

The saw horses and the Workmate all flatten down for wall storage.

You can never have to many Workmates

I have the older version, bought 2 of the newer versions this year for $99 each. The new one is even better, not sure why anyone would use anything else.

Get a set of folding table legs and a sheet of 3/4 ply. Cut ply to desired size for top. Screw saw to table when you are using it To keep it from moving. Table folds flat for easy storage. BONUS: when not being used as a miter saw stand the table doubles as a.....table
Seriously, a miter stand is a one trick pony. Build yourself a good, solid folding table, make up some clamp on jigs/ attachments for using your saw and you end up with something you can use all of the time rather than only one specific task.

I really like the Dewalt DWX726. Got mine off Amazon for $180 IIRC. If I was recommending one to buy this would be it.

In any case, the OP wants to make one, not buy one, and in that case I'd KISS and go with something like this.

EDIT: Be prepared for a pretty drastic volume change about 1 min in. :scared:

This is what I built and pack in and out of my truck just about every day. Took one 4x8 sheet of plywood to build. It's light and can be stood on end in a corner. I clamp it on top of a sawhorse and it's ready to go. Makes for great table workspace for sanding and routing as well.

I have an older style Ridgid stand, it it works great for my heavy 12" saw. I like the BIG wheels for moving it around outside. It sets up/breaks down very quickly.

Pretty much a copy of the Bosch gravity rise. I love mine.

It all depends on what you are using it for and where you plan to use it and how much room you have that you can dedicate to the saw in your shop.

If you plan to take it to jobsites or even just closer to the work (if you are doing trim work in the house) then it would be useless to build a nice station in your shop for it to be semi permanantly mounted. If you intend to use it only in the shop for when you are doing wood working projects then trying to get something super mobile may not be that important, I am in this same dilemma. I am not a carpenter and so I will never be taking my saw to a jobsite. I don't have tons of room to dedicate a large area to set up a nice large station. I currently have mine sitting on a piece of old particle board that sits on top of the original frame work for an old weber gas grill. The frame has two large fixed wheels and two small swivel casters. I can roll it around my garage when I need to but it doesn't currently have any extension wings on it so any board that is over a few feet long I have to rig something up to support it.

I was at a buddy of mines shop a couple weeks ago and he had a cool very simple set up. he stores his saw under his one bench. When he needs to use it it sits in the middle of the work bench (work bench is about 16' long mounted to the wall) In each direction he has two sets of double small holes at 4' from saw and 8' from saw. He has blocks of wood that match his miter saw table height with two dowel rods on them. He slides the blocks of wood into the matching dowel holes in his bench top to support the boards. When he is done he pops the wood blocks off and puts them under the bench with the saw. This system didn't cost him anything but it's not mobile.

I have the Delta as well for my 12" Dewalt saw. Love it, so easy to move and setup. Think I spent around 150 bucks for it

I just got one of these to use for my miter saw, and other misc outdoor projects. It sets up easy and feels sturdy, time will tell how it holds up.

Here is my rolling miter saw stand, finally completed with kreg top trak. I plan on moving to a larger space in the future but for now need to keep it as compact as possible. I wanted to keep the table height higher than usual to save my back. Also have a mobile vac underneath hooked up to a dust deputy. That thing is awesome, I never need to empty the main vac or clean a filter.

I know you said you did not want a rolling cart stand but here is what I have.

I use my chop saw for light work and this works fine for me.
