My budget is $200, unless I found something that's worth spending the extra $$.

I like the Ryobi stand, rated at 400 lbs. About $90 at home depot. Not a lot of bells and whistles but a good sturdy stand.

I just picked up the PM7000 from Menards for $150. (not sure if they have Menards out there). I haven't really used it yet, but seems really sturdy compared to some that I have used.

I've got the older version of the Ridgid Stand, works great. The newer version appears to be the same as the Bosch. I also have the PM7000 for other things, wouldn't want to use it for a miter saw, isn't nearly as handy as the Ridgid. The "2 wheeler" style stands are the only way to go.

Depends on what you are going to use it for. In and out of the truck at jobsites all the time, or primairly just moving it around your house/shop.

For the later, I really like the Ridgid MSUV, ~$190

+1 on the Ryobi. Good, sturdy, and does what it's supposed to. I picked mine up on Craigs List for $60. Have used it several times and it works great. One of the least expensive ones on the market.

+1 for the Ridgid! I don't own it but I have used a friend's on several jobs and I was very impressed! When I do buy one it will be the Ridgid. YMMV.

I'm leaning towards the ridgid right now.
Portamate PM7000 is a pretty cool looking miter stand. Has a work light & power outlet. I'm not sure how good the quality is.

I have a Delta stand under my Dewalt 12 inch sliding miter saw. Works pretty well, has extendable supports with rollers, it folds for storage with the saw still on it and it has wheels that make it easy to roll around once folded up. I think it was a little over $100 from home depot.

I have the PM7000, I use it as a stand for my portable planer, scroll saw, and have a home made work table I mount to it. It would drive me crazy to use it for the miter saw. I can set up the MSUV in 30 seconds or less. It would take much longer with the PM7000 as it would be 2 trips, 1 for the stand, and 1 for the saw. I can see if you were hauling the saw to job sites it might be easier because of splitting the saw and the stand up.

I recently got a Bosch GTA3800 stand free with my Bosch gliding miter saw, It's an awesome stand. I have been using an early DeWalt stand for many years (I can't recall the model number) and it still carries my DeWalt 12" miter saw like day one. I can recommend both brands equally, with the Bosch having a nice edge on portability and setup versatility.

I have the Rigid MSUV, it's about 5 years old and is great no complaints. Very sturdy and easy to move around with the big wheels. The only thing I don't like it that its big and takes up space storing it, on the other hand since it's so big that's what makes it sturdy.

I had the Dewalt stand and it worked fine. However, i ran into the issue of mobility as I do some work for some charitable organizations so I needed something to move easily around those work sites and I have to move my saw in and out of my garage to use it. I found I needed something with wheels because strangely for some reason things are getting heavier as I get older...go figure.

I ended up getting the Porter Cable Universal stand. I have used it so much that I replaced the wheels with some bigger air tires I got from Harbor Freight as I wore out the rubber ones.

It stands up taking less floor space and I can move it easily in and out of my truck by lifting up the wheeled end sticking it on the tailgate and rolling it on into the truck.

Just another one to consider.

I built mine out of some scrap plywood/pine. I glued two pieces of 3/4" X 6" X 8' long plywood together to make a sturdy beam. A sliding table for the mitre saw & removable legs for portability. Plus I made a couple of stock supports that can be positioned anywhere along the beam. Since the sliding table can go to either end (or in the middle) it is easy to cut long lengths of moulding with a support or two as needed.

I have a Delta....got it from Lowes on a rediculous clearance sale. I think I paid $59 for it.....however it's a total pos. Luckily I don't move it around much...pretty much stationary at my shop, but when I used to take it with me to job sites it was a total nightmare to deal with.

for the record....I'm a huge fan of a simple mitre saw that you can pull off a shelf and use right on your roll around work bench island. I get more work done with my little Ryobi than I do with my sliding 12" Dewalt.

okay maybe everyone doesn't have a roll around work bench island.....but you should!

Not the greatest picture of it but you can mine in the background.

It started life as part of my step-dad tool cart at work. The bottom box I have now, came from him as he ended up not using it before retirement. I modified it to fit my needs and I can roll it around all over the wood shop side of the garage.

I think you need to start with your priority: portable vs mobile.

For Portable, the DeWALT is top-rated: link
Ryobi is a good value

For Mobile, there are more good choices:
Rigid as mentioned
Bosch zero gravity
Delta/PC
HTC PM7000

I had the DeWALT, but I'm simply moving around my SCMS in the garage, so it wasn't the right stand. I bought the Delta (now PC), and it's ok. easy up/down, but the extentions(sp?) are terrible and poorly designed. I wouldn't recommend it for this reason alone. If I had to do over again, i'd look at the Bosch (big $), Rigid, or HTC.

I also have the Ridgid Mitre Saw Utility Vehicle with a Makita saw. It's great...makes it so easy to move around. Highly recommended. I got mine at HD.

Ditto.

Slightly different MSUV than you posted. Works well lock the slide on The saw and it stores decently on it's end

DEWALT. Period. Enough said. you can get one for a tad over $200.00

I can't tell you the amount of wood I cut on my hands and knees before getting my Dewalt stand. Never be w/o it again!

I went with the StableMate Plus 100. Got it from Amazon on sale for $129. Lots of accessories and in addition to my miter saw I got mounts for my chop saw and scroll saw. It's light weight, plenty sturdy, folds down nice, has a carry handle built-in and has an option for wheels to make it easy to roll around.

I'm curious about something. With no vertical back on the stand, how do you cut crown moldings?

I have a bench I built from 2x4 years ago with a small infeed table and a vertical back on it. This lets me position the crown in the proper position for a cut. However, my bench is FAR from portable (unless you count skidding it to a different part of the garage) and I'd like something more portable too. I don't do a lot of work with it, but I do have a few more rooms in the house that I would eventually like to put crown on.

I've had the MSUV for several years and love it. It's the easiest to set up and is very sturdy. Large wheels make it very easy to move over rough surfaces. Wouldn't use anything else.

Thanks for all the great advice.
I'm going with either the ridgid or dewalt. My lowes has the HD dewalt on clearance for 108, but they only had the display left. They also had my Hitachi miter on sale for 200 with a free brad nailer, I paid 230.

I'm going with either the ridgid or dewalt.

I used both during my 4 year renovation. The MSUV is great for leaving the saw on and rolling it around the house/shop. It's also better for using with other tools besides a miter saw.

The dewalt is lighter, smaller, much easier to transport, especially through doorways etc.

Do note: I'm not sure if either is technically "rated" for a 12" SCMS, but they both work fine, you just have to be careful when your are mounting/unmounting the saw.
