Miter saw stand

9944 is what I have and like. It's the traditional Ridgid MSUV. I never knew the 9945 existed till I googled it, it must be the updated model, which seems to have good reviews on their website, and similiar design.

short answer: whichever you can find / whichever is cheaper

agree, it's a great design. I have a dewalt saw and the stand and love them both. Compact stands like the old workmate dont' support what you're cutting which limits their use IMO. Although the workmate is compact, it weighs a ton

Not sure which dewalt model you have,,,,but a friend trashed his Dewalt 723and got the Ridgid stand after using mine. Much easier to set up and move around.

Bosch T4B "gravity rise". I have the gravity rise stand on my Bosch 4100 and I would not be without it. Soon I'm going to order the T4B for my 5412L miter saw.

I've recently gone to purchasing all Bosch power tools, but I know I'd be just as happy with the Dewalt/etc... very similar build quality/etc. However, I don't think anything beats the Bosch gravity rise stands for portability of heavy power tools.

Also, I have a total of 10 Triton work supports, take two with me whenever I miter as I always seem to have 16' or 20' lumber that's beyond the capacity of portable stands. I picked them up on clearance at Menards for $25, and they are WELL worth it.

I just picked one up at Menards for $99.00.

I have to say after putting it together, I am impressed, it is rock solid and it also folds up when not in use. The sale is limited supply, only good till gone.

I didn't read the whole thread but I have a ridgid miter saw stand and love it. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...ooglebase-_-D25X-_-202673168&locStoreNum=4915, this is different than the one I have but looks nicer and more like my bosch gravity rise table saw stand.

The bosch gravity rise stands are great stands, I have one for my table saw and its so nice to use. I'd assume the miter saw stand would be of the same quality.

I use a Black & Decker Workmate picked up at a flee market for $30. Works well and folds up when not needed.

That's what I use too.

I clamp the saw to the workmate and use two stand alone roller stands with it. I needed something that doesn't take up much space when not in use yet is easily portable to job sites.

Just bought the Rigid MSUV. Excellent unit, easy to set up and holds my Millwauke saw nicely. Trying to sell the Millwauke fold down stand since I no longer need it.

Here's a shot of my Miter saw stand. I built two of them. This one stays in my shop and I have one that I keep in my truck to use in the field. The legs fold up inside the box section for easy storage / transport. The outriggers are supported by a one piece 3/4 plywood beam that actually runs the entire length of the stand. When the legs are folded up the unit has a carrying handle cut into the main support so It's really easy to carry. I use the 8 1/2 Hitachi in my shop and the 10" Hitachi in the field. It also makes a nice support for my Unicycle

I have the masterforce,it's..ok.. the mounts bolt to the saw so it's really quick to take the saw off and put it back on. I also told mynards that a piece was missing so I got another set of "mounts" and bolted them to my table saw. I will say it's not the sturdiest thing but it works and is relatively small. I like the power strip that's built in too. I and another friend (Rick S here on GJ) both have the previous generation Rigid SUV stand, with a table like top to bolt the saw to. Absolutely the best stand I've ever seen/used. Big wheels so it is loveable over any ground, folds VERY easily, is compact when vertical, expansive when needed, and very solid.

The only thing I wish mine had was fold outs on the legs to hold a modest amount of stock for volume cutting.

The newer version is very nice, and gives flexibility of mounting alternate tools, but so far I'm glad I have mine. The extra table surface is nice for hold pencils, tape measures, etc.

I considered making my own, nut the more I worked with Rick's, I knew I could do no better for my sometimes portable needs!

Personally I wouldn't go with either of them, they don't have wheels. When done fold up and wheel back into garage. But if you don't care for wheels and if you don't mind taking your saw off each time that is up to you.

One benefit to these stands are they are easier to fold and pack into a car/truck vs. the larger frame of the wheeled models. I got a wheeled model and find it's a bear to truck it in and out of my basement. So when I do bring it up, it tends to stay in the garage for months at a time because I don't want to drag it down and back up again in a few weeks. Of course wheeling it outside from the garage only takes a few minutes.

The problem with the wheels is what is said below, while great for driveway jobs at your own house, the size of the Rigid stand makes it a disadvantage to pack up and truck around and use at different locations. Instead of the DeWalt's 35lbs, the Rigid is 65lbs. Add that to the 65lb saw, and the combo is 130lbs that I have to lug in and out of the truck vs just carrying the saw then the stand.

It also just takes up a lot more room when I am not using it.

The two things I was worried about with the longer span, is what if my board lengths don't reach the outer supports even when closed? I guess if I am cutting something that small I can just hold it, but its a thought. Also, at 6' long folded, that is still very large vs the 3.6ft folded of the smaller model.

I think I am leaning towards the bigger one, but its nice to get some real world feedback. Thanks for the replies.

I am happy with the saw. The only downside to it is that its heavy and somewhat cumbersome to move around. otherwise, I think it is at the top of its class. Everything feels tight and and I never think "man I wished I had more saw." When first looking for a miter saw I was more in the 150-200 range for a 10". When I could get a 12" slider from a company like Milwaukee for 300, I jumped on it. I have to say I'm pleased with my other Milwaukee purchases as well (circular saw and drill)

Good move on starting with the 12" slider. I wasted my money starting with a 10" non-sliding saw, though it was an upgrade from nothing I guess. So I now have a DW780 12" slider with a DeWalt stand, and a smaller 10" Delta miter on a portable stand with wheels. I like both stands for all the reasons stated. Make sure whatever stand you get is up to the task. I would never consider mounting my 12" slider on the smaller portable stand. Footprint is just not big enough. The DeWalt is heavy, as you stated, and consider that the CG will be moving around due to the sliding. The aluminum DeWalt stand is larger, sturdier, and still lighter than my steel rolling stand. I prefer the DeWalt stand when it's set up, but I do like the convenience of never having to remove the 10" saw from its stand. However, with the DeWalt, you probably need to remove it each time anyway due to its weight.

hi, i am late as usually but amazon has a denali brand stand that i have for only $ 89.00 free shipping . i have used it a lot and has held up good. a basic, sturdy, easy to move stand. the ridgid mobile station is the king in my book especially for 12" saws but are more money. hope this helps someone. thanks!

I would concur. Got this stand and love it. Oddly enough, I know a lot of pros who swear by this stand, though it is the only Ryobi product they've ever or likely will ever own.

At at like $100, it's hard to go wrong.

I had a DeWalt for 10 years and it works great. The problem is storage and the ease to move it. Very difficult to move by yourself if you have a 12" sliding type saw. I bought the Ridgid (home depot) unit with wheels and I love it. Stores on end and takes up less space and moves with one hand. Set up is 30 seconds. Just my 2 cents
