Most stands are universal unless you have a gigantic miter saw, which I assume the Kobalt is not. You probably need to decide how you are going to use the stand. If it is for home use you might want a fold up with wheels. If it's something for more portable use you might want a fold up with out wheels.

I had a steel Ryobi stand, it was around $100 new and worked for most things with a couple different Dewalt miter saws on it. I sold it and bought a larger foldup Dewalt stand, it was lighter and the material supports were longer and had stops that the Ryobi did not.

I haul mine a lot in my van for work on rental property, so a big heavy rolling stand is a no go for me, since they are tough to load solo. The downside with the Dewalt stand is I have to lug the stand to where I am working and then go get the saw.

What ever you get make sure it is stable. Some of the cheaper stands I have seen seem flimsy.

Miter saw stands/ carts are great for like a pro trim carp.. that needs to regularly move it around, and into his pickup.

Otherwise... sawhorses w somekinda top.. I like interior hollow core door slab.

yes a fold up one for sure so i can store it better. doesn't really need wheels so thats not a make or break opt. i will only be using it at my house. no where else really unless someone needs to barrow it which is rare.

i tryed that table top idea this weekend and it was more of a pain then anything. plus it was a bit lower then i was wanting. no comfortable and then had to put it all away. i just rather have some sort of stand. plus need i need to find to take the place of the sawhorses i used.

If you can wait for Black Friday, this usually goes on sale for $99. It is unbeatable at that price. I bought it last year and it's awesome. I've used it for a crown molding project where I had to move the saw from inside to outside, up and down stairs frequently. Very easy to set up, very stable and great up and down stairs. The reviews look mediocre at first, but if you look through them, all the bad reviews are for a Ridgid miter saw that has a wobble at the arbor. I highly recommend this stand. If you do your research, you'll probably come to the same conclusion.

I built this 18" x 5' one for to carry my Delta miter saw out on a worksite. It is torsion box construction (very stable) with solid 'plugs' glued in place where the through bolts for the permanently mounted saw base go. It is heavy which is good for stability but the handle is at the balance point so it's not too bad to carry. Fits well on saw horses or pickup tailgates. The end serves as a small work surface and I can flip it over for a larger work surface. The little plywood contraption to the left is one of two risers for trim/etc boards.

Nothing wrong with the harbor freight folding miter saw stand in my opinion. Cheap with a coupon and has served me well for the past 2 years.

I've eyeballed that one for a while and the sale is a great deal. I need a stand for my Rage 3 already. Until this point it's lived on the workbench (aka steals valuable tabletop space) and it gets carried to the work area, currently sitting on my flatbed gorilla yard cart pulling miter station duty for the garage shelving going on. I'm fed up with garage stuff at knee level and constantly stepping over things to reach on shelves and workbench.

Is it ok to store a compound double bevel sliding miter saw on it's side? I'm thinking for keeping alignment specs and all.

Miter saw stands are fairly universal because the mounting brackets adjust to match the bolt holes in the base of the miter saw, similar to how a flat screen tv mount can adjust to different stud spacing.

My dad has the Ryobi stand and it works pretty well for what it is. The outriggers come in handy for cutting long boards.

I don't use my miter saw very often but when I do I clamp it to top of a Workmate or 6' folding table with some C-clamps.

I have one like the one below. Mine is a higher up model that came with a jaw clamp, extra "feet" to mount a miter saw plus another tool, but other than that it is the same.

I like it because the "outrigger" type supports on each side can slide in and out to adjust for cutting lumber up to 8 feet long. And the supports also have rollers on them that adjust up and down so they can be set level with your saws work surface.

And the "feet' that you attach to your tool stay on the tool, and they also have small rubber pads on the bottom so that you can remove your tool easily from the stand and use it on the floor, or on a table or whatever. Because the feet clamp to the stand, you can position your tool anywhere along the stand.

I have a 12 inch Ryobi miter saw on mine, and when I am done using it, it just rolls out of the way for storage.

I just got done building a shelving storage area in my garage, and this stand worked great holding all the 8 foot 2x4's I was using to make the shelving frames. Without it, I would be trying to work on the floor, or I would have had to take up bench space that I needed for other things. Being able to roll it outside, and keep the dust out of the garage is a bonus also!

Oh, and I don't know if other stands come with this, but this stand has a built in power strip that once you plug the power cord into a receptacle, you can then plug in multiple items into the power strip, eliminating the need for extra extension cords all over the place.

Jim

I've had a Porta Mate miter saw stand for several years. When I ended up getting a sliding miter saw, I waited till the DeWalt I wanted came with a stand, and I like the simplicity of the DeWalt Stand. They both have the quick attach brackets you bolt on to the saw. I really like them both.

I 100% agree and they have ran this as one of their deals for several years now (I know at least three times). Funny.....once I had my saw on a sweet stand where I can roll it out and set it up in less than a minute instead of lugging it around...I now use it much more often (several times more).

I'm probably the only person here who uses a Rousseau 2850 stand. I wanted a stand with storage, not a folding stand. I've added sturdy extension wings, plywood inserts on the sides and back, two large drawers and larger casters. It works well and doesn't take up any more room than some of the folding stands. If I need portability, I use a 12" hollow-core bi-fold door on saw horses.

I just clicked your link today,12/9/2018 and the price must have been reduced, it is $99 with no mention of a sale. It just says reduced from $239.

This year they didn't drop it for black Friday but have a few times since then. The regular price fluctuates from $150-199 but it is only $99 for short periods of time right about this time of year.....at least that is how it has always been.

I picked up a craftsman stand a few years ago, and it’s one of those “why didn’t I do this years ago” items. In the past I would set the saw on the floor or on something between saw horses, use blocks of wood to try to support long work pieces...now I just unfold the stand, extend the supports and I’m ready to go at a comfortable work height. That Ridgid stand looks nice, I’ve got the Ridgid job site tablesaw with a similar stand and like that.

I bought one from Menards on Black Friday. It cost something like $15.

I’m afraid to take it out of the box...... Probably overpaid.

Really hard to beat the Ridgid one, particularly at the current price of $99 at Home Depot. Solid and good quality.

The $99 Ridgid stand at HD is great.

Like others have said...you do wonder "why didn't I do this before?" Saves so much space.

"are all miter saw stands universal?"

Maybe, but all miter saws are NOT....

I have one of the Ridgid "MSUV" stands, really like it - but they "***-u-me" that all miter SAWS have their FRONT bolt holes lined up with their REAR ones - I found that out after I bought a 10" Hitachi saw for the MSUV (the 12" Dewalt slider is heavier than I wanted to drag around the 10 acre place), the "offroad" saw is mainly for framing outdoor projects on site, the DeWalt for more accurate stuff -

I solved the mounting bolt lineup fairly easy, just took a decent piece of 7-ply, mounted the Hitachi to THAT, then drilled 4 more EQUIDISTANT holes for the Ridgid's mounting bars. Small radius on the plywood's corners and a canvas dust cover stretches snug over the whole thing, I'm happy :bounce:...Steve

I use my miter saw occasionally for breaking down 2x4 and for household trim. It was on a workbench table but it took up too much room. Then it was on my Workmate but that ******* the WM. Then it was on a Craftsman stand but that lacked storage. So the latest thing is a Gladiator cabinet. I found it on sale for $108 and painted the doors to match my Gladiator Premier cabinets. It is very sturdy and has tons of storage.

I have this Delta stand which is nearly identical to the rigid stand that I picked up when Lowes was doing there big SKU clearance sale a while back for $94 and I love it. The saw is easy to remove if needed but so far I have found that its just easier to leave the saw on it. I have the Milwaukee 10" miter saw on mine and with the battery powered saw I don't even hesitate to just roll the saw out and within a matter of seconds its set up and ready to cut even if I am only doing 1 or two quick cuts its still faster than pulling out any other saw that is capable of making the same cuts. If I didn't have a stand already I would 100% jump on the rigid stand now.
