Just got a bid from a local HVAC company to install a Mitsubishi Mr Slim Mini-split Heat pump. The salesman told me "You know, these units are very labor-intensive to install. It will take us three days."

I've read through the instructions on-line to familiarize myself with the process & components and still don't see a three-day install justification. It looks pretty straight-forward. Can anyone out there who has one of these units shed some light?

Dustoff their yankin your chain tryin to justify labor charges . I can do a full household system with ductwork with 2 helpers . I could do a mini split in 4 to 6 hours by myself using hand tools I wont even take out the power tools :D. I hate to say it but what exactly is labor intensive about hooking up a lineset ,setting a Tstat , running a little Tstat wire if you can solder you could do it in less than 2 days if you read the instructions :D.

What a hoot! What some guys will do to make work. I could do three installs in three days and still have time to run plenty of personal errands.

I installed a 22k mitsu last year. If you have long runs for the power and freon lines it might take a while, but not 3 days. I bought mine online for 1600 bucks[shipped] and paid a guy 50 bucks to pull a vacuum and check the refrigerant.

You guys are confirming what I thought.

I did have a second company out yesterday afternoon; expecting a bid from them on Monday. I got the names of both dealers from the Mitsubishi web site. I got the impression that neither dealer was very knowledgeable of the Mitsu product line. That raises some concern.

Electric power is right there, linesets (3 for the MXZ-3A30NA) would run up a wall and through open attic space. Pretty straight forward install (from my non-professional perspective).

Rick, I'm in southern Boone County, do you travel that far?

Well Duane you are right around 100 miles from me PM me with your quotes and we will see I might be up for a little road trip :D I am sure even with the road trip I can beat the morons prices especially the one that thinks its a 3 day install :D. I havent been to Cinci in a little over a year but its not a bad drive .

I did 2 last year. first one took 10 hours but i also ran the power line. Second one, now that I was an expert having done one before, took all of about 5 hours and 2 of that was vacuum pump time.

yah thats crazzy, we were doing them in a complex and i and a helper were doing 3 in a 10 hour day with wiring and start up, strait forward installs though, but none the less. we use the daikin sp? sorry brain dead... but they run in a lower temp more efficiently than the other brands. quotes around here worst case is around 3,500..but thats the worst ive scene...the units are real easy to do though, i dont care what you have to do 3 days for one unit, you wont have a job around here haha
