Mitsubishi Mr. Slim Quotes

I will be moving into a new shop soon, and want to do the heating and cooling, right. I just got a rough quote for the installation of a 9000btu Mr. Slim Heat pump. The quote includes everything for installation of the following units:

Outdoor M# MUZ-GE09NA
Indoor M# MSZ-GE09NA-8

The hardware can be had for $1233 at acdirect.com. The quote for installation was $3650. Is this reasonable? Of course this is a rough quote without the installer having been on site.

To soon to tell. What is the installation going to look like. Where is the condenser going to be mounted. Wall mount, roof mount or pad? How far is the electrical going to be run?

When comparing the 1233 to the 3650 the tendency is to flip out. The more important questions are, can you do this yourself with the correct tools? If so, how much do you save and what is your time worth? Is the contractor a guy who will be there to take care of any issues? Are they a good shop?

This is a wall mount unit. Condenser will be directly outside of the indoor unit. Electrical run will be about 20 ft. Seems like a good shop. They provide their own installation warranties on top of the manufacturers.

The unit you listed is discontinued. The new model has a higher seer rating but is slightly more expensive

Regarding installation - the majority of it is pretty simple to do. When I installed mine, I spent $140 on special tools - primarily a flaring tool and then paid a local contractor $300 for a 'startup service' so that it would be warranted.

Your will probably have less than $300 - $400 in the lineset, electrical, control cable, drain tubing etc. eComfort makes it real easy when it comes to these things - click on the accessories tab on the link I gave you. They will also give you the names of contractors in your area or look up Mitsubishi Diamond Dealers and ask them how much they would charge to come out and start it up

Thanks a lot. It looks like doing most of the work myself and having an AC guy turn-up would save me a lot of money. $1800-$2000 vs $3600. The eComfort kit is only $237.

The quote you received doesn't seem too out of line based on the units I had installed this fall in the house. Based on talking to the contractor who installed the units for me, the 12 year warranty will not be honored for a non-dealer install. I would verify that if the warranty for the units is important for you.

For what its worth, I watched the team install the units here, and the work is within the capabilities of a reasonably handy person.

I ordered a Mr Slim dual unit from ecomfort and installed it with the help of my friend, I mounted the outside unit 9 feet above the ground. I found an HVAC guy that tested and evacuated it for $100. Saved $3000, which is less than the whole thing cost with line sets.

I installed the two minis in our house, and paid a licensed HVAC contractor $600 to connect the lines and commission the units (and sign the warranty card). I saved enough that even if they didn't honor the warranty, I could replace both units and still be money ahead.
