So, I was browsing my local Goodwill store yesterday and came across this awesome Mitutoyo 3" Micrometer Set, Part #103-922 for $19.99; needless to say, it came home with me. The 1-2" and 2-3" micrometers are missing their lock switches, but I'm looking to buy replacements and fix as necessary. Looking this set up online, the cost seems to be around $350 brand new. The two bigger micrometers are made in Japan, where as the smallest micrometer is made in Brazil, which was some what disappointing, but still an excellent purchase. Also, as you can see in the picture, it came with a nice wooden case versus the plastic molded cases I see the newer ones coming in. I'm going to try to upload more pics later on.

Re: Mitutoyo 0-3" Micrometer Set

What!? Micrometers at Goodwill? We must have the worst Goodwills in the country around here. I have never seen a single tool at any of them (and we have like 6 GW stores in the area).

I was VERY suprised when I saw this. It was in their "glass case", along with a Mitutoyo Depth Micrometer; $20 for that one, too. I refrained from picking that one up because the base had pretty bad pitting on it. Went back this morning to go look at it again and it was gone, unfortunately.

Oh, one more thing. I guess those two sets had been sitting in their case for awhile, as the original price was marked $74.99, then $54.99, and finally $19.99.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but op how do you know if your set is vintage or not ? What year was your set made ?

On the up side you did very good for your money; something I learned from my wife (she is right 99 % of the time) in that the workers get the cream of the crop long before it hits the shelves. I say this because I almost never see any tools and when I do, it is all useless garbage that belongs in the city dump.

I guess I just assumed it was an older vintage set because of the wooden case and sticker on the side. Also, the older cursive logo versus the normal printed logo. It may not be, and if so, then I might have posted this in the wrong section. I was just under the opinion that it was.

The little switch lever is gone, so I can't lock them in place that I'm aware of. The set just didn't come with them.

Those are definitely vintage, maybe late 70s/80s judging by cursive Mitutoyo script. Surprised it hasn't already, but that foam will turn into dust. The lock switches sometimes fall off if you don't notice the screw is loose. Finally, don't worry about the Brazil mic. Mitutoyo makes excellent tools, regardless Japan or Brazil.

Thank you for the input, that's nice to know! Yes, the foam is falling apart pretty bad. I've already found a place where I can get those switches and hope to replace them soon. I was suprised that one of the micrometers was made in Brazil. Is it possible that the original was swapped out with the Brazilian one or do you think the set came with that one originally?
