I found this at work and I can not figure out what battery is needed. I googled it and I could only find it needs a 357 but I think that is for the newer version and not this one or I am not opening the right spot for the battery. It is solor powered and it will work in light. I would really like to get this thing working properly.

Thanks

A 357 battery is fairly common coin cell battery. At the store you may have to check the packaging as each brand may call the 357 by a different part number.

I don't have experience with that particular caliper. Sometimes small solar powered devices do not use a traditional battery. Instead it has a capacitor as a "battery" like in solar powered watches.

Maybe Mitutoyo uses the same body housing for solar powered and traditional battery powered calipers? Just throwing it out there, hopefully a forum member that owns that particular model can point you in the right direction.

Thank you for the input. I figured it was some sort of rechargeable cell. I can not really take it out of work to take it to the store.

That makes sense. Thank you that is a port to plug into the computer. It did not look like a normal battery port to me.
Thanks

There are some reviews on this caliper by knowledgeable, owners, on Amazon, who discuss the solar function in detail. Apparantly it doesn't have a back up battery at all but a capacitor. They say if stored in the dark for any length of time it is dead as a door nail but with exposure above 60 lux (very low) it is working in a few seconds and will hold the charge for a short time. It has auto off so it will come back instantly for short term use, from the retained charge. The one using the 537 is another model and the port you opened is for a data cable, to store readings on a computer.

Thanks guys. I tried a 357 which I believe is the same as the lr44. I thought that port which is for some sort of usb cord is a battery port. Thanks guys
