Mobile Home wiring

Ok, a bit off topic as it's not a garage. Recently I went and bought me a house trailer. I classic well worn 1978 model, it came with 3.5 acres of land adjoining my property (hence the motivation to purchase). One of the things I'm doing is going through all wall switches/outlets and inspecting the connections/wiring. I don't think house trailer building codes were much to speak of in 1978 so I suspect the light switches and outlets will be crusty and of low quality.

I will probably simply replace them all for peace of mind. Is there anything else electrical wise I should be watching for other than basic 101 hillbilly wiring????

Mine is a 1981 model. It's all hillbilly wiring on mine. If you give up on the wiring you can start on the great plumbing!

Replace them with more cheap switches and outlets. I mean, how much longer do you think you are going to keep it ? Probably not another 35 years !

Hopefully there is no aluminum wire in it except for the service entrance cable.

Should not find AL branch circuit wiring in a '78 trailer, but then I was surprised when a 1973 model double wide trailer was wired w/ AL & they used Zinsco panels to make matters worse, the good part is the conductor material was aluminum alloy which does not have the same issues as earlier AL products.

1976 was the year that HUD standards kicked in.

I have one and the wiring is lean and code minimums. The year is important sometimes as it determines how they wired it. The recepts abd switches were good, they backstabbed but its all 12 and I looked, the device must have been listed special for larger wire,,, but it all works and isn't too bad except they had a gfci wired wrong and the kitchen counter tops had a shared 15A circuit,

I ran a 12/3 from the panel additional and that took all the major loads off of existing wiring and packed Jboxes.

I left the rest of it.
