Mobile Shed

I am only planning on staying at the current property for another year or so. Afterwards I will be moving cross country. I have a full shop as well as tractor, implements, etc etc. I currently do not have a shed on the property and all equipment is stored in the garage, forcing me to store some less used items off site.

I am going to install a storage utility on the property.

I am looking at 2 options,

1.) Build a shed.
-Materials
-Time
-Minor return with home value

2.) Install a shipping container
-Cost of container
-Cost to move container after the property sells
-Paint & Roofing
-Ability to pack the majority of the shop into the container and move it all at once.
-I have connections that make moving a shipping container simple, cheap, and easy.


I'm leaning more towards the container for simplifying the future move. However, the prospect of a nice shed providing additional home value/appeal is alluring.

What would you do?

So moving the container with its contents to your future place won’t cost anymore than moving that stuff with rental truck or moving company? After you’ve moved, do you need to get rid of the container? Maybe container companies pick them up and give you a little money if they’re in good shape. Where I’m at, a container is $3,000 delivered. Maybe less for one of the lighter, cheaper “one-way” containers.
If it was me, the container’s the way to go.

My solution was/is an enclosed trailer. Registration is less than taxes on a shed here, and when we moved I just towed it to the new home. I bought used and can sell for what I paid. Try that with a shed...

On the other hand it is less attractive than a nice shed, but nicer than a container.

I wish I could speak authoritvly on the subject, if you intend to make a perminate move I think a high cube container has advantages. It will be a semi permanent shed or shop on the property.

A decent semi trailer might be more easily resold than a container.
