Made a mobile welding table for home use a couple months back. It measures 30"w x 60"d x 36"h. Probably weighs about 500lbs plus 3-400lbs of scrap metal in the base. Sits on 6" casters w/brakes rated at 900lbs from grainger for $25/each. Made with w-beams, angle iron and c-channel laying around our shop. We also have a 9' x 12' x 3/4" piece of flat plate we removed from a freight elevator. I'm gonna see how i like the w-beams for clamping first before cut the plate for the table top. The w-beams flanges are nearly 3/8" thick, more then stout enough for anything I'll be making at home. The legs, 3" angle iron and base, 5" angle iron are 5/16" thick. I recently came across some 2 1/2 x 1/4" thick box tubing so I decided to make mounts for a vise, bench grinder, etc - tow hitch style.

Box tubing welded in and clamping insert made out of uni-strut, modeled it after the x pattern on the miller welding table. The c-clamps can slide anywhere in the insert. It works ok and the uni-strut was free, but I'm keeping my eye out for something thicker. Maybe I'll use the 3/4" plate. I'm open to ideas as this is an ongoing project. I've gotten some real good ideas from this forum though. Leveling feet and paint are definitely in the future plans.

That table is badass - way to incorporate some thought and ingenuity into it. When I think "welding table" I think of "4 legs and a thick steel top surface". That's certainly changed after seeing what you did here.
How much would one be, shipped to NJ?

Put in some time on the vise mount today after work. Again, found some extra 1/2" plate in the shop and got some 2" x 1/4" box tubing from a friend.
Cut the plates to size with a OA torch and finished the edges w/ a sandpaper disc on the grinder. Welded the plates to the box tubing w/ a Maxstar 150sth using 7018 1/8" rods. I love this welder.

Test fitting a 6" Wilton and a Craftsman 4 1/2" on the plates. Just refinished the Wilton and got the Craftsman as a trade for some work. The Craftsman is made in China and seems like a copy of the Wilton. I'll see how it holds up before I pass judgement, but it does "seem" solid. I also took a pic of my "workshop" aka carport. I'm so jealous of all your dedicated workshops. A 8' x 15' tool shed near the carport is in the works. Thats the largest I can make w/out a permit and w/out taking up valuable yard space for the kids. Land is at a premium here in Hawaii. No pix but just put a coat of POR-15 on the plates.

Very very nice! An awesome multi purpose table!
Looks HEAVY duty. The unistrut is cool but I think I would be partial to a piece of flat steel. I'd want something that I could fabricate on and beat on with a hammer.
I have a piece of 3/4" plate that I could throw on as a table top, but the haven't had the need for it yet. I was thinking I could make another table with it. For the things I've made, gate, cart, brackets it works very well. The uni-strut will be replaced as I've noticed it does flex a bit when I've locked down the big c-clamps. The w-beams are very stout near its webbing and I have a 3/4" x 12" x 12" plate on a 3" pipe I use for real "massaging". But never say never.
