Mobile Workbench Recommendation

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and have sifted through many threads but haven't found the exact answer I'm looking for. From my search I've seen mostly work benches or tool chests but not many combinations. Would you buy tool box and throw a wood top on it, buy a mobile workbench, or something else?

I've been searching online and found these (2) but would like to know if there are other/better options out there.

Option 1: Milwaukee Mobile Workbench 48-22-8553

• Pros: Extra height (41")
• Pros: 18 Ga Steel
• Pros: Thick wood top
• Pros: soft close, drawer liner, built in outlets
• Cons: Can't find anywhere

Option 2: Husky Mobile Workbench with Adjustable Top

• Pros: Adjustable height
• Pros: soft close, drawer liner, built in outlets
• Cons: 19 Ga Steel (and overall build quality?)

The space it will be going in has room for 56" but I'd like a few inches of wiggle room. I mainly have automotive and electrical tools with some random things here and there. I'd like to keep under $1k all in.

Really depends on what kind of stuff you work on, as for me, I need a bench vise, overhang to clamp to, and a table that can take one hell of beating when I pull out a 3lb sledge to knock the dog **** outta whatever pesky seized hunk of rust I'm messing with at the time lol.. And I dont see this type of workbench being a good choice for any of that. But thats me. Now you may be able to remove/replace the wood top which would give you access to counter sink some bolts to attach a bench vise, replace the wood when it gets nasty, or to put a custom top on it with overhang to clamp to if you need that. If that were the case, it could be made into a nice capable bench. Idk, just some stuff I'd be thinking about.

Also, you may or may not know, but Sams Club sells one of these, that in my opinion is much nicer than both that you've listed and much cheaper at only $409.99. Here it is:

If you dont have a Sams Club Membership, it's only like $45 a year or something so you'd still be saving a huge amount of money.

I prefer to keep my regular tool storage separate from the workbench. Ended up purchasing a couple of these workbench cabinets linked below from U-Line recently. Mainly I was after storage for larger items like sets I want to keep together in the original blow molded cases, and to keep my soft sided tool bags secure as well as having a mobile workbench. It has been working out very well for these purposes. I opted for the maple tops, and plan to drop a sheet of 14 gauge over it once the wood gets beat up from use. Rolls around nicely and works well for my applications. Mounted a good sized electric chainsaw chain sharpener unit to one of them, so you could likely mount a vise up on there without issue.

Problem I see with combining regular hand tool storage and workbench space is that you may find it difficult to sit in front of the bench working on a project, then have to get up and move to open a drawer to grab a tool. Also if you plan to do dirty projects or grinding metal or anything like that on top of the bench there is the potential of fouling up the drawer slides with grit, plus having it get inside of the drawers where the tools are, hence why I prefer keeping the regular tool storage separate. Just something to think about, this advice may or may not be helpful for your intended purposes.

Coincidentally, I just received a $75 off coupon from HD today so I may lean towards their stuff. If anyone else has recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for the input, I never thought about the potential problems you mention. This Uline may better suit my needs and I could buy cheap hand held tool boxes for my tasks. One for electrical, plumbing, car, etc.

LOL! I spat out my drink when I read that! That workbench from Sam's club is a little too long for my workspace at 72-77", thanks for the suggestion.

I ended up going with the Husky because I had a $75 coupon, available to ship to the store near me, and fits perfectly on my side of the garage. My HD also had 2 different cabinets where I could test out for quality which fits my purpose.

Pros (aside from previous post): easy to push fixed castor side against the wall on my flooring, deep drawers, and adjustable height.
