Hi I have the HF import blast cabinet.

The 4 legs are just angled steels

I want to put it on wheels so I can push it to the shed, out of the garage.

I have savaged a movers dolly 3" wheels, and bought a 3/4" piece of plywood.

Can anyone devise a mount or something to mount the cabinet to my giant skateboad? I am having a lack of imagination at the moment!

I have a welder also, should I put a frame around the edges of the plywood.

BTW I am going to shorten the legs too otherwise the 4-5" raise might be too much?

I'm assuming that you mean this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93608

I'd make an angle iron frame that went between the four legs and bolted to them - the one leg would attach to the leg and then the other leg would be horizontal at the bottom. Use about a 3x3x1/4" angle so that you can then attach the casters to the frame. That should tie the legs together and give you a good base. Then you could drop a piece of plywood into the frame and use it as a carrying shelf for the welder and whatever else.

Thanks PAToyota
That is the cabinet

I really like your idea it is exactly what I am looking for, and it adds strengh to the legs too, Although I thought 1/4" will be more suitable for a battering ram. :) My 110V MIG would not get very good penetration at that thickness.

I would think 1/8" steel angles would be plenty for this application? I am not sure if lowes have 3" wide angle irons and I think it might be expensive.

GEZZZ ya think the 3x3x 1/4' will hold er :scared::scared: maybe you should go up to 3/8" just to be sure :p:p

My thought for 3" wide is to have enough to mount the wheels to - too thin and mounting is going to end up being more trouble. As for the 1/4" - that is probably overkill and 1/8" would be fine. I picked up a bunch of 1/4" angle iron at the recycler, so that is what I've been using lately. As for the 110V MIG, just make two passes for the heavier stuff.

Actually, I wasn't sure if you had a welder. Since you do, I'd miter the corners and weld them up. If you want to use narrower angle, drill about every six inches and bolt the plywood to the angles and then fasten the casters to the plywood.

I made my mobile base for the blast cabinet, with 1.5" angle iron, to wrap around the outside of the legs at the bottom, a bit tighter due to a miscalculation of measurements so forced the legs in. Cant remember how big the casters are but never looked back on this modification of the blast cabinet. Now my thoughts are to add in some better lights inside as well a vacuum powered dust collector so I can see the parts better. Also thinking of changing the suction feed out to a pot blaster so I am forced to strain out the glass beads more often.

If you don't have scrap steel around for this you could also use 2 x 4 wood (on edge) around the outside of the legs. Bolt the wood to the legs and screww the plywood to the 2 x 4's.

I like to weld when I can but sometimes wood is a good (and cheaper) alternative.

Strong and cheap.
