Has anyone ever seen one of these? I wonder what i the heck its purpose was. It is for sale for $1600.

I agree, doesnt look like the carriage could move much closer to the chuck with that wheel there

I wonder what they had hooked to that trasmission
brings a new meaning to engine lathe

Yeah upon closer inspection it is just axles to move the machine. It really threw me for a loop when I first saw it.

I think you ought to buy that rascal, then you will never need to worry about what may, or may not fit through the thru hole in the headstock!

My entire lathe will fit through that spindle. Damn. I would love to have it.

Looks like a full time job to bring that lathe back to life.

Sadly I cannot imagine anyone paying that kind of money for that rusted old pile of iron. Though I hope someone saves it from the scrap pile...

It sure looks like it. I have seen a few old flat-belt lathes modified with vehicle transmissions. Pretty ingenious.
