Got a new LED light on a tripod at Lowes. This thing is great and it collapses. I lit up the back of the Mustang and it seems the first thing I painted which was the panel between the bumper and the trunk is lighter in color that the rest of what is painted so far. More work for the weary! This did not show under fluorescent lighting

painted the trunk and repainted the back strap today. Took three tries not to get a run on the flat surface when I was able to paint compound angles without a hitch. Go figure.

This is my interim project while I am waiting for weather to paint. Or when I get tired of sanding **** I have to do over. Give a guess what it is? Bobby
Oh by the way, The broken gear is fiber. I broke it trying to work some oil down in the works. Who would have believed someone beside Henry would use one. I have since counter bored the pulley and replaced it with a brand new Boston Gear! Smooth.

will post picture of sprayed trunk finish when it meets my satisfaction. I will be sanding the clear tomorrow. Wish I had a spray booth! I should look like Popeye by the time I finish sanding this car!

Sorry. I just thought as no one posted maybe no one had looked! It is an automatic saw filing machine for sharpening hand saws! I have replaced the fiber gear, which stripped, with a new steel gear; they are not available from the OEM. I have it apart and will replace the springs, already found a suitable replacement, and grease/reassemble. It is also missing the vise to put pressure on the advancement of the saw in the carriage. I have purchased another like it and will manufacture another vise using the second one for a sample. This is how I fill my time while waiting for weather to paint, parts, money, etc. on the big project. It also keeps me from having to cut the grass more often. That's cut the grass not plow the field!!!!!!!!!!

Small gear. And the thing is pinned with hardened pins. I did not know and had a hell of a time getting it out.

I will post when it is assembled. This thing even moves the saw one tooth at a time if it is set right. Should be fun to play with.

It is adjustable for teeth points per inch, file angle and tooth pitch.

got the trunk sanded and the clear repainted. NO orange peel but there is no way short of building a paint booth for one car that I can keep the trash (dust) out of the paint. looks like it will only show in reflected white lite, unless some blind guy runs his hand over it. I will be able to buff most of it out I believe once I learn how to buff. Still rather be able to say I did it all than have no specks and have to say I had it painted. Even if the paint job was free. If I can get the rest looking as good I will be able to hold my head up no problem. Not enough there to scratch the bottom of a baby doll !!!

It's possible to get a near perfect sprayed finish with a booth but with an uncontrolled environment, you have to do post spray block sanding & buffing. Most important is that the paint is fully cured. Block it out with 1500 or 2000 and water, buff with fine compound. Lots of You Tube videos I'm sure as well as MP & C's ultra detailed work in the Fabrication forum.

Well the big all in one paint on the Mustang is finally done. Not perfect but as good as it gets for a garage non pro. My wife says nothing will ever be perfect enough for me to rest. My answer was you are dear! Bet you can't guess how long it took me to learn that??

Anyone know what this is? It was manufactured in 1961................ Got the mustang drilled for medallions and 289 V8 insignias yesterday and started masking again. No one makes a stencil for locating the V8 trim so that took longer than actually doing the job.

could it be a bed knife or reel grinder for a lawn mower?

Yes I is a Foley Reel grinder. I have seen an ad that says it will also do the bed knife, however, it is at my daughter's house until I go and get it in the fall. Has attachments but I do not know what that entails. I am hoping to find an instruction manual for this particular model although the later one probably is not much different. Way to go!

I am almost done with the saw filer. I am going to try and update it to a later model drag set up that replaces the vise used for drag pressure on the saw blade to take out the vibration while filing and at the same time let the saw be fed tooth by tooth into the file. I could not find the old set up. Once I get that, and have time to evaluate and modify it, I will post the finished product. It is running as designed otherwise, and when finished will also sharpen circular saw blades.

Spent the day sanding masking and cleaning. Should have one day dry enough to paint on Wed. If so, fenders and cowl are next. At this rate, rain, tropical storms, and high temperatures, I will have to wait until fall to see this project through!

Pitchers of assembled Foley saw filer. I still have to retro fit some other parts and rebuild the saw carrier.

Finally got the doors masked off, and the rest of the car for that matter. It's amazing how far overspray travels when you have to run a fan sucking out in order to keep the trash down. Final prep wet sand tomorrow and shoot on Monday. It is in the 90'S here with a heat index in the triple digits when you consider the humidity. Monday will be 57% and high 80'S. Try to get the clear coat to flatten out when it gets this warm. I will shoot 8 to 10 am before it gets into the higher numbers. This is the only day and Wednesday was the only day for this week so I shot the fenders and cowl. No more acceptable weather after Mon. until the next forecast. Once the doors are done, if I don't mess them up, I will have only the hood and some buffing. Thank God. Wearing a Tyvek suit in this weather is likely to kill me if this keeps up.

Doors freshly painted. I have to buff out a few places on the passengers side door which should be OK if it has enough clear coat on it to allow. Always a guess how far is to far. So, I don't get to remove masking until I am sure I will not have a re-shoot. Hood is all that is left to shoot unless I get over zealous on some of the minor orange peel that the less picky keep telling me to leave alone.
