Modest Model T Garage

This is my first post. I have been lurking here for a while and was inspired to re-model my modest one car garage. I spent the last 2 years restoring a 1915 Model T and when it was done, it made my garage look even more pathetic.

Anyway, I decided to empty everything out, tear out an old loft, paint the walls and rafters, and build a new work bench and shelf using lumber that was in the loft. I also added 2 new 4' flourescent lights (for a total of 9 in a 14 by 24 foot space). The whole project cost about 75 bucks so far.

Here is the final result. I still want to epoxy the floor and make a nice top for my new bench (maybe steel?)

The Ford sign is 2.5' tall and 7' long. All the license plates on the back beam are from Grant county (my first name). And all the other doo-dads are from various cars I have played with over the years.

Reminds me of a garage I saw when I was a kid. There was a neighbor who had a working Stanley Steamer. Had a garage like yours, just with a few more spares.

Real nice progress. Hope that engine doesnt back fire and send the boy flying! LOL, not sure if it could or not but that came to mind.

Looks like you did a top notch job on that re-build.

Did you hand paint that Ford sign? I really think hand painted signs look neat.

BTW, which state got shafted with the rainbow plates? Yikes!

The rainbow plate was short lived in Kentucky, Thank God.

Model T's have broken a lot of arms and continue to do so. It would require spark and gas to cause it to kick back though, and when my son was playing with the crank the engine was only partially assembled. The green tape is covering the holes where the intake and exhaust manifolds go.

Height is about 12 feet at the center of the apex. I would really like it to be higher so I could hang my bicycles up there.

The garage and house were built in 1952. When we bought it, the garage was just a shell with nothing painted and one 60w light bulb hanging from the center. Should have taken the before picture back then.

Luckily, I trade yard work for the use of my neighbor's 2 car garage for car and lawn mower storage. I get to use 1/2 of her garage in the winter and all of it in the summer. Otherwise, my other car (an all original 1930 Model A Tudor Sedan) would be sitting outside.

I'm really glad I found this forum and did this project. I no longer feel like I'm storing a diamond ring in a burlap sack!
