Modified Four Way Lug Wrench

This is a modified four way lug wrench I have used for years. I first saw the suggestion in a Circle Track magazine tips and tricks article over 30 years ago. The modified wrench has a 1/2 inch drive welded on one end and a skateboard wheel mounted on the opposite end. It works great to mount wheels before you torque the lug nuts.

That's pretty neat.

I do keep a 4 way in my trailer, but otherwise, it never gets used.

Years ago, everybody I knew carried one in their trunk. But now, they don't seem to fit the lugs on alloy wheels. Mostly because the socket end won't fit into the lugnut recess.

I have a couple unmodified ones I use often enough. I like giving it a spin once the nut is started.

Its been decades since I owned a 4 way wrench.

It seems like a smart modification. The 1/2” drive definitely makes it a more capable tool.

I still keep a 4 way in the truck without a toolbox, mainly just for trailer tires.

Koken makes a nice one that I thought about getting. But after a bit of thinking I know I would never use it. The handle on the end is a spinner.

I can't remember the last time I used a 4-way. The last one I owned was a foldable one but even though it saved space I still rarely used it. I don't even remember what happened to it.

It works awesome. You can adjust the t handle in two positions. One for ultimate leverage and one for quicker spinning action

I assumed it was a sliding t-handle. That's exactly what it would be for if I bought one, to go in the truck. But I couldn't justify spending money on a nice tool to just sit in the truck & rarely never get used.

I've had my truck for 19 yrs now, not once have I ever got a flat & needed to change the wheel on the side of the road on it. Whenever I go on long trips I bring my M18 impact with me.

I used to carry my trusty Matco 1/2 breaker bar in the truck. But again, for the same reason above, I finally decided to move it's home to my home tool box. Last year I bought a cheap extendable breaker bar to take it's place in the truck which will probably never get used. Lol



I do have the Koken 3/8" drive spinner t-handle which is very nice. It's somewhat similar to Koken lug wrench so I have no doubt the lug wrench is the same great quality. It's the only Koken tool I currently own. I really wanted to get a Koken ratchet or two but once I found out they have backwards direction levers I can't own one.

Those spinners look great. I just put it on the list.

And I hear ya about having such a nice tool in the truck that will hopefully never be used. Unfortunately I've used the 4-way lug wrench too many times, including off road. I just had no good way of storing the 4-way in my short bed. So with the Koken set up it's just tucked behind my rear seat.
