I’m nearly done my 24x40 pole barn garage, mostly to store my vehicles. The plan for the permanent floor is going to either be a concrete pad, concrete pavers, or a partial concrete pad as a “work area”. When I say temporarily though, we’re talking at least a year or two.

Anyway, I’m going to put stone down on top of a vapor barrier and I’ve been debating between modified and clean. I like modified because you can really pack it with a tamper, but I was concerned about issues with dust in an enclosed building.

Your terminology differs a bit but if 'modified' means that the material contains fines, what we would call crushed gravel, that is what I would use. It would compact and stay in place better than stone alone.

I like the idea of putting down a vapor barrier. I'd consider a 15 mil product such as Viper or Stego Wrap. It will stand up much better to placing material over it and is more effective than poly in blocking water vapor.
