Did this a couple months ago. Don't really like working on race cars anymore, but my plumber races and I owed him for a rental remodel.
03(?) Kraftcar Was built to be 4-bar LR, swing arm RR. He wanted it switched to an simple little 2-link deal we do.
Pissed me off he put the left side body on so I could only fork it from the right.
Safety first kids
Originally the RR spring was on top of the axle tube. It'll be in front when I'm done.
First thing was to lop out lower frame rail and move it inboard.
The lower control arm mount had to go.
Make new mount on the bench. Just tacked to short tube to hold it in vise.
Holes in mount are drilled in radius so that moving arm up and down doesn't change wheelbase
Vent the tube or you'll get stalactites welding it off.
Done
Man, my worklight makes these welds look like ****. They're really not so bad, really.
Second verse same as the first(only on the other side)
The tail on this thing has been mashed at some point. Esp on the LR when I started trying to clean up the old mounts the patch and goober hidden under the paint was extensive.
How we did this was a bit of a cluster:
Being an underslung car I could measure up from the lower rail, but I'd rather had it in my scale area and set ride heights and whatnot from the ground.
I didn't do the upper spring and shock mounts. The owner thought he could handle that and of course mucked them all up.
